I love Annie. I really wanted to use it for one of the dc, but dh has red hair, and felt it would be unfair to have a red head dd called Annie. Neither are though!
I also really, really love Anne, and would have Anne, nn Annie.
I hate the name Anna, can't put my finger on why, and dislike other Anna/Ana names as well, they sound a bit 'wet' for want of a better word.
But Anne, nn Annie is fabulous!

I like it but would be inclined to have it as the nickname.

Bonsoir · 16/07/2011 07:01

Annie sounds like a maid to me! Probably because my DSSs long-standing nanny was called Annie.

Seriously, I think Anna (which is my name) is a lot more versatile and elegant.

mathanxiety · 16/07/2011 06:59

Gorgeous.

Bandwithering · 15/07/2011 23:49

1944girl, yeah, don't blame your mum, although I love Annie/Nancy now, I was at school with a girl called Nancy and I remember thinking 'poor her what a weird name'. And until about five years ago, Annie was just Annie Sugden from Emerdale Farm. I have finally managed to move past that. maybe the actress who played her is dead!

Bandwithering · 15/07/2011 23:47

And they say names are cyclical roughly 90 years, so bang on cue, Nancy and Annie are back in fashion.

I like them both. It may be mere fashion but can't help being influenced by it.

Oh now I want another DD so I can call her Annie. Absolutely adore the movie.

MugglesandLuna · 15/07/2011 21:41

I love it - its so pretty and one of my favourite girls names.

Bandwithering · 15/07/2011 13:46

kid creole and the coconuts! good song! [old]

ahshutupayourface · 14/07/2011 20:10

Annie, I'm not your daddy, repost if you are old enough to remember this one!

I do kind of like it, but it can sound pretentious to my ears... but I don't know why. But anyway, if you like it then just ignore everyone! Good luck x

MrsOzz · 14/07/2011 19:22

Annie is lovely. As is Anna.

Lots of names have links to stories, films, books etc. Annie in the musical is a fab character anyway! Plus I do think that as the decades roll by it is not so associated with the musical as my gran thinks it is.

whatshallmynamebe · 14/07/2011 19:21

I have an 18 month old Annie. We loved it because it is not overly used, yet everyone knows it and how to spell it etc.

Bandwithering · 14/07/2011 16:50

"tainted" is too strong a word. I'd say the names Myra and Maxine are 'tainted'.

Pinkjenny · 14/07/2011 16:49

I love it.

lowra · 14/07/2011 16:47

Love Annie. I wanted it for our DD but OH wasn't having any of it.

Nightstar · 14/07/2011 13:03

"Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, it will shine! Tomorrow tomorrow, I'll love ya tomorrow, it's only a day away...."

Sorry, i couldnt help myself. I do like it, its quite classy, but forever tainted by that bloody musical

PotatoWaffle · 14/07/2011 12:57

I love anna too but DH not too keen. Keeps saying it reminds him of an anaconda Hmm. We will be calling her Annie so I suppose I will just put Annie on the birth certificate as I'm not keen on having official names just for the sake of it. Just my personal preference. Thanks for all your opinions definitely seems quite positive so far. We love it!

If you intend to call her Annie then I would use that on the birth certificate. I know someone who has done this.

mumzy · 13/07/2011 22:28

I like Anya as an alternative to Anne and Anna. Annie is a lovely nn for all 3

verylittlecarrot · 12/07/2011 21:23

Oooh, I like! Really pretty and not overused currently at all. Nice to have an -ie ending instead of the more popular -a endings around right now.

bigbluebump · 12/07/2011 21:19

We have an Annabel and both she and I really dislike Annie. Love Anna though.

Papyrus · 12/07/2011 21:18

My DD2 is Annie (Anna) and really suits her name. I would definitely go for Anna on the birth certificate, then she has options when she's older.

My DD1 does call her 'Orphan Annie' on occasion - sisterly love! Grin

Mumbrane · 12/07/2011 21:13

Really lovely.
