Clara by a long distance

washngo · 14/07/2011 22:06

Also I have a friend erica who I've known all my life and never ever once has it occurred to me to think of her name as a female version of eric. It is another name for heather (as in flower all over hills in Scotland) though.

Meglet · 14/07/2011 22:06

Clara.

Hassled · 14/07/2011 22:05

Clara. Love it.
Erica Roe was big breasted rugby streaker 100 years ago.

washngo · 14/07/2011 22:04

Both lovely but if pushed I'd say erica.

greenzebra · 14/07/2011 17:32

Clara, erica its just a mans name with an a on the end

razzlebathbone · 14/07/2011 14:43

Clara is lovely. Erica is awful.

muminthemiddle · 13/07/2011 23:01

Clara, more feminine imo. Erika just screams female Eric to me and I don't like masculine sounding names (except for males!). lLkewise I don't like effeminate sounding names for boys.

Teapot13 · 13/07/2011 18:39

I don't think of Erica as the feminine version of Eric, although I suppose it could be seen that way. "Erika" is heather in German.

Fatimalovesbread · 12/07/2011 22:56

I Prefer Clara but DH says Erica (sorry that's not much help) Grin

LaTristesse · 12/07/2011 21:34

Clara. Think Erica is ugly... (sorry)

ChessPiece · 12/07/2011 20:37

Clara

Rhubarbgarden · 12/07/2011 20:33

Erica. It's much more original.

scarlettsmummy2 · 12/07/2011 20:31

clara

itsohsoquiet · 12/07/2011 20:28

Erica definitely. Don't like Eric but like Erica Grin

Aphria · 12/07/2011 19:57

Ha ha, it wasn't Clara Lara I was thinking of, it's actually a town in Offaly too!

Aphria, I wouldn't worry about Clara Laragh. You could call your next child Anna Livia. What lovely names! Grin

When I hear the name Clara I don't think of it as being a place too.

Bandwithering · 12/07/2011 18:46

Easy.

Clara by a sea mile.

Ivortheengine8 · 12/07/2011 18:38

Clara. Not a fan of Erica. :)

Ihavewelliesbuttheyrenotgreen · 12/07/2011 18:37

Erica- Its unusual yet still a proper name iyswim. Its quite cool and I reckon it will become quite popular in a few years time so you will be ahead of the curve. I don't think that it is too musculine, no more so than Leah, Georgia or Philipa which are all popular.

oohlaalaa · 12/07/2011 18:37

Also like Cara and Lara, but not Clara

oohlaalaa · 12/07/2011 18:36

Erica

minipie · 12/07/2011 18:35

Clara. (not keen on girls' names which are feminised boys' names)

But I'd go for Cara instead.

Aphria · 12/07/2011 15:31

Thanks for the feedback. I feel the same about Erica sounding more masculine (DH really likes it though).
I'm Scottish living in Ireland and on an Irish site Clara won hands down, but it's also a place in Ireland so it would be more popular over here. Clara is 94 on last year's stats here and Erica doesn't feature. Neither feature in the top 100 in England & Wales so neither if them are fashionable.
Think I might be winning DH round. After having 2 boys I thought a girl would be much easier!

Isn't Clara the drippy one in Heidi?

Neither is my considered opinion though.
