No a harpist plays the harp I think.

rachel1970 · 11/07/2011 10:38

Isn't a harper someone who plays the harp?

Doesn't sound very feminine to me, so wouldn't choose it personally for a dd.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 11/07/2011 10:33

It's the surname of a close friend, so it just sounds odd to me as a girl's name. Also I always tend to think it suggests moaning, like 'harping on' about something. Could have been worse, though. I am surprised they didn't either try to be unique, or surprise the world with a quite traditional, pretty name to do with flowers or something.

Ihavewelliesbuttheyrenotgreen · 11/07/2011 10:26

I think that Harper is nice enough. I'm suprised that its not more girly but its name thats unusual but not too out there. The middle name is a bit odd. Iirc her brothers have quite normal middle names, I think one has David and another Joseph. Then again middle names are an opportunity to give a name that has meaning to you but that you wouldn't be brave enough to use as a first name.

mumatron · 11/07/2011 10:26

Well, maybe they think it's nice? Harper is a lovely name. Obviously seven is going to get some raised eyebrows, but so what!

They were always going to get slated for the name choice whatever it was.

Good luck to them.

GreatAndWonderous · 11/07/2011 10:24

Was she born at Harper Seven in the morning?

PotterWatch · 11/07/2011 10:17

Surprise surprise, another celebrity child stuck with a stupid name. Why don't the break the mould and call their children something nice for a change that they may not be ashamed of when they are older. [hhmm]

PurpleStrawberryGuava · 11/07/2011 10:05

I don't mind Harper, I prefer it for a boy, but it works well for a girl too.

However, it doesn't seem like it's them somehow, it almost seems a bit mainstream for them.

eandemum · 11/07/2011 10:05

VB can't win can she
If she had gone for a 'boring' name everybody would be slating her.
If she had gone for a really way out name everybody would be slating her.

chocolateyclur · 11/07/2011 10:03

I love Harper, but wtf is seven about?

houseelfheave · 11/07/2011 10:03

Sure he didn't mean Sven?

hannahsaunt · 11/07/2011 10:02

I love it. I would have had it for dd but dh wasn't brave enough. Think it's particularly unfair to assume that neither Beckham would have read Mockingbird (and perhaps for those who have, one of the primary points of the book has been missed ...).

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 11/07/2011 10:02

Sounds like a call-sign: "Come in Harper Seven, are you receiving me?"

SleepySuzy · 11/07/2011 09:56

It just reminds me of the girl on Disney's Wizards of Waverley Place, who wears fruit on her dresses and other stuff.

puffling · 11/07/2011 09:51

Harper - tedious American name (although the image of a cherub playing a harp is itself quite pleasant).

Harper Seven - sounds like the name of a supermarket's own brand of tramp lager.

Not surprised Victoria went for a masculine name. She is quite masculine herself.

breadandhoney · 11/07/2011 09:50

Kitty - disappointed for you. Abby Clancey named her baby after our DD when she was only a few months old (middle name and all). I was oddly devastated. But at least she's not as high profile as the Beckhams. As you say, at least you didn't have your baby before they did!!

electra · 11/07/2011 09:49

I think Harper is lovely. Not sure about Seven - I suppose they must have chosen that for some reason.

stressheaderic · 11/07/2011 09:49

VERY surprised by such a unisex name choice. Seven though, with all the associations...kind of like that.

unclefest · 11/07/2011 09:47

how stupid.

breadandhoney · 11/07/2011 09:47

I quite like it, but expected them to go for something much more girly. It does kind of sound like "half past seven" though Hmm

Eglu · 11/07/2011 09:46

I quite like Harper. Not sure about Seven. I am surprised at them using Harper though, doesn't Nicole Ritchie have a Harper. I would expect them to use something nobody else had.

PinotLovesRonWeasley · 11/07/2011 09:46

Suitably twattish.

oohlaalaa · 11/07/2011 09:46

I'm not keen on the name, but it could be worse.

hardcolin · 11/07/2011 09:44

I agree, more übergirlisch, Trina . I expected that too

TrinaLuciusMalfoy · 11/07/2011 09:40

sleepywombat 'doubt v much they've read To Kill a Mockingbird'

Doubt v much they've read To Kill a Mockingbird anything Wink

I honestly expected something a lot more out there/übergirlisch
