It would appear that this is the chosen name for their longer for darling daughter!!!!! Shock

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nevergoogle · 11/07/2011 21:15

i like it.

Eurostar · 11/07/2011 21:12

I think I remember studying that in Roman mythology Harpies had ravenous appetites and constantly stole food. However, in Greek mythology they weren't so objectionable.

Virgil said something along the lines of.. They are birds with girls' countenances and a disgusting outflow from their bellies. Their hands have talons and their faces are always pallid with hunger.'

McDreamy · 11/07/2011 21:10

I quite like Harper. Whatever she chose would be heavily criticised. I am very pleased for them. How exciting.

strawberry17 · 11/07/2011 21:08

My 12 year old son heard it as "half a seven" and said why didn't they call it three and halfGrin

tostaky · 11/07/2011 21:06

what is the relationship bw to kill the mocking bird and seven? i cant remember?

willowstar · 11/07/2011 20:59

I think Harper is lovely...no matter what they had chosen some people would slate it jusdt because of who they are. As for it being masculine...I would
never have thought of that but then I only know the name from Harper Lee so...

Oblomov · 11/07/2011 20:54

Not very feminine. Considering VB was 'desperate' for a girl, I am a bit shocked by how unfeminine it is.

Raahh · 11/07/2011 20:51

The big question is, has David got room on his back for another tattoo?

perpetualsucker · 11/07/2011 20:38

Not fussed about the 7 bit but Harper is such an American cliche now. It would have been more interesting and surprising if she'd gone for a pretty traditional name or one we'd never heard of.

Tigertoes · 11/07/2011 20:37

I have a Lana.
Phew, phew, phew.

Taffeta · 11/07/2011 20:35

First thing I thought was it sounds like half past seven

Mole007 · 11/07/2011 20:28

sounds like a brand of beer!

TwoIfBySea · 11/07/2011 20:09

I actually think the name is quite nice. Harper I would chose for the literary connection and I think Becks giving his daughter his lucky number as a middle name is quite sweet really.

If something means so much to him, like a talisman, and now he gives it to his baby girl.

Awww.

mummy22gorgeousboys · 11/07/2011 20:09

For a long awaited daughter it's a waste of a name.

Sounds like half past seven.

Not feminine, classy, pretty, delicate, or remotely nice.

Congratulations though! Wine

Cheeez, some horrible comments on this thread. And as someone else has said, whatever this baby was named, it would have been critisised.

mummy2aisha · 11/07/2011 19:07

I think it a stupid name but they dont live in they dont live in the real world so they can get away with it harper sound manish I feel sorry for her but she never need to go out a get a job so she be ok.

katkitya · 11/07/2011 18:58

Seven means complete in Hebrew.

There are some utterly nasty people on this thread. I'm sure your children all have perfect names. There's some real bitches around here.

thisisyesterday · 11/07/2011 18:53

and the fact that it's July as well?

thisisyesterday · 11/07/2011 18:51

love the name Harper

not so sure about Seven- is that cos David was number 7 when he played for Man U?

runnyhabbit · 11/07/2011 18:48

Instead of being shortened to Harpie, maybe it will be HappySmile

And although this is a much wanted and loved baby girl, VB does not strike me as pink and fluffy (a la Katie Price) Like all the other names, and every other parent, they've found names that they've a) they like, and b) they've agreed on

DonnaM82 · 11/07/2011 18:43

YellowingWallpaper - yes which is why he thinks it won't be used much! Plus, our thinking is any name will have negative associations if you look hard enough.

Harper is definately off the list because of the same reason as the comment above - the chavvy variations that will be around in 5 years time. The fact that Neil Patrick Harris has a daughter called Harper Grace didn't put us off (my cat is called Grace - he has good taste in names!) but this certainly has!

We're now thinking Lauren for a girl instead - far too boring for celebs! :D

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 11/07/2011 18:42

Truly dreadful, but exactly what one would expect of the tacky, tasteless, stupid Beckhams.

YellowingWallpaper · 11/07/2011 18:40

Donna, did your husband understand The Catcher in the Rye?!

YellowingWallpaper · 11/07/2011 18:40

I think it's tacky...not that I expected anything less.

I'm with the poster who said in 5 years time you'll hear it being screeched across busy supermarkets by a certain breed of person.

I wouldn't hate it if it was an American boys' name...but I certainly wouldn't choose it for a child born in Britain.

I wonder if VB has read To Kill AMB?
