That's it really. Just had to air my thoughts as the name seems so popular on here at the moment.

I like it but probably would never have used it.
Joshua is the name that winds me up.
I know loads of Joshes and they are all Johuas but there was a mother on another board who liked to do the perfect mother thing, and quite enjoyed the attention of having a sick child who always referred to her son as Joshua and it ended up winding me up something awful. I don't mind Josh but whenever I hear the name Joshua I just cringe.

hulabula · 12/07/2011 14:42

I don't like it very much. Thankfully we all have different tastes Smile.

Chynah · 12/07/2011 12:43

I love it but then DS is a Nathaniel.

SunnyStateOfMind · 12/07/2011 02:43

I like it, it's on the list for DC2

whizzyrocket · 12/07/2011 00:32

Yes.

I've always found the -iel bit on the end a tad pretentious.. the only one I've met had taken pretension to heart as well.

cloudydays · 11/07/2011 22:59

No, I think it's a lovely name. I really like it. I like Nathan too.

When I was 10, though, my friend had a new baby brother and I saw his name written down before I heard it said by anyone. I thought it must be pronounced like the two names "Nathan" and "Neil" one after the other: Nay-than-NEE-ul.

I still hear it that way in my head when I read it. But that's my problem, it's a great name.

i love the name Nathaniel

Mumbrane · 11/07/2011 22:40

No, it's lovely! But strangely, I don't like Nathan.

PotPourri · 11/07/2011 22:39

Er, no

blueshoes · 11/07/2011 22:37

SecretNorbertFix · 11/07/2011 22:17

NadiaWadia · 11/07/2011 22:16

MadHairMoody · 11/07/2011 21:01

I have a Nathaniel and he is awesome, so there.

lambandmintsauce · 11/07/2011 20:53

I love it!

pilates · 11/07/2011 20:25

WTFamIdoing, are you looking for an argument because that is a weird thing to come out with.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 11/07/2011 20:12

No, it's a good name. Better than others that have been chosen for newborns today!!

Rhubarbgarden · 11/07/2011 20:10

I do.

freerangeeggs · 11/07/2011 18:27

I feel quite defensive! I teach a Nathaniel and he's awesome and this thread is making me irrationally pee'd off because of that Grin

sonniebonnie · 11/07/2011 14:29

I agree with notso.

Nathan is nice. Daniel and Samuel/Manuel are nice.
But I don't like the combinations Nathaniel or Nathanuel.

But surely it is a good thing that we have different tastes. How boring if we all chose the same names and wore the same clothes and etc....

birdofthenorth · 11/07/2011 14:24

I know a Nathaniel nn Nate born last week, think it's sweet. I was at school with a twat called Nathan though so was relieved when SIL chose Ethan over Nathan for our gorgeous DN!

grubbalo · 11/07/2011 13:10

What a strange thread to start

How about letting us know your children's names so we can pass comment?

Mabelface · 11/07/2011 12:17

Nope, because I have a Nathaniel, known as Nat or Natty.

allhailtheaubergine · 11/07/2011 12:16

Nope. Because I know the most beautiful 13 year old Nathaniel. Such a great boy and a credit to his parents. Love him, love his name.

notso · 11/07/2011 12:12

Love Nathan, love Daniel, hate Nathaniel.

My DC's names are always getting 'meh' 'of the moment' 'can't stand' 'boring' or 'chav' comments though.
