I heard this name mentioned in a shop yesterday, and really like it. I'm just not sure if it's a proper name or not?
Also is it popular? I've never known anyone called this, but it could be popular elsewhere.

I know a 42 yr old Sadie.

bandgeek · 07/07/2011 11:51

I think it's a lovely name. My friends little girl is Sarah but gets called sadie.

mayanna123 · 07/07/2011 11:45

Yes proper name imo. Too close to sadistic for me.

evamummy · 07/07/2011 11:38

It is but I'm that keen, I'm afraid. I don't like the Sad part.

manicinsomniac · 07/07/2011 11:00

I think so? I teach a Sadie. She's 9. I've never thought about whether or not it's short for anything.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/07/2011 10:47

It's lovely. I like the Rizzo reference Grin

I think I've only known one - as a teenager. She was one of those tall, lithe, glossy blond girls that all the boys fall over themselves for. She was nice, and pretty. I hated her

ellesabe · 07/07/2011 10:39

Of course it's a proper name! I know a 10year-old Sadie.

noddyholder · 07/07/2011 10:03

It is and it is lovely

AlpinePony · 07/07/2011 10:00

I went to school with a Sadie. She was the school's "Rizzo"! Grin Lovely name.

TooManyBlossoms · 07/07/2011 09:56

My 2yr old niece is called Sadie. It's lovely. As is she Grin.

birdofthenorth · 07/07/2011 09:47

Friends aunts are pronounced Say-Dee, much nicer than Say-Die

Sophiesmummie · 07/07/2011 09:29

First time I saw this name I read it as Sad-ie Sad. But pronounced Say-die it sounds much happier Smile.

pinkgirlythoughts · 07/07/2011 09:06

It's a nickname for Sarah, but it is sometimes used as a name in its own right. I don't think it's especially popular, but it does have that 'old-fashioned' vibe that's massive at the moment, so I could see it becoming popular in the next few years.

Lightshines · 07/07/2011 09:06

Its definitely a real name :
Sadie \s(a)-die\ as a girl's name. Diminutive of Sarah (Hebrew) "princess".

I only know one, a member of my family.
Its a pretty name.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/07/2011 09:02

My family are Irish btw, none of my English family use it.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/07/2011 09:01

I'm a Sarah who is called Sadie by various family members. I really like it but have only known it as a nn for Sarah. I think you could use it on its own though.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 07/07/2011 09:00

Sadie, IME, is a rather old fashioned name. I know two, both different aunts of a jewish friend.
