I thought the registry people were supposed to stop this sort of thing happening??!

If they refuse to let people call their boys Jesus (which they do despite it being a perfectly valid and popular name in some cultures) then why would they let people use such cruel names?!!

The weirdest names I've come across seem tame in comparison (two little sisters: India Mouse and Willow Star) and were definitely names they wouldn't be teased for. I say if this is the alternative let's bring in big brother! Everyone would have to prove the name was a proper name before being allowed to use it- not a disney character, a place, a few words, or just something the parents thought sounded good. I'd even have every parent choose off a list to avoid some poor little half-portions ending up with some of these names!

I know a Meadow...

hightrees · 11/07/2011 14:13

How about Thalia.
Or better still Talia.
Maybe they couldn't pron their Ts.

As for the others, Cloudberry is rather good tho'. I don't know any crazy named kids. No fair.

CheerfulYank · 11/07/2011 08:15

I say fale-yur so that wouldn't occur to me. I think it's pretty! :)

lovesicecream · 11/07/2011 08:04

Yes I'm sure!

TimeWasting · 11/07/2011 07:53

lovesicecream, sure it's not Portia?

I don't think I'd have spotted the 'failure' similarity, it would fail-ya for failure and fay-lee-a for Phalia here I think, the l being in different syllables.

Baby2b · 11/07/2011 07:35

At the risk of outing myself I taught a Georgie, spelt Gorgie Grin

AmyStake · 11/07/2011 01:44

mathanxiety · 11/07/2011 00:20

Had a cashier today whose name badge said Sue T. Very unfortunate.

lovesicecream · 11/07/2011 00:08

I know a little girl called Porsche, don't like it at all !

Baby2b · 10/07/2011 23:05

I know a girl called tequila and have met a boy called beejay (childish snigger).

Agree that Phalia sounds penis related and is horrendous.

Oh, also knew a girl called cloudberry, she really suited it and it seemed like a usual name after a while.

OTheHugeManatee · 09/07/2011 16:28

Angel-Cupcake is horrendous Shock

BoojaBooja · 09/07/2011 16:26

I know a family who called their baby Cosmic. Poor little lad!

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/07/2011 16:25

Candydarling is on the cover of The Smiths, Sheila Takes a Bow 12" single....she was an american actress and Andy Warhol liked her.....but she used to be a man, she was a male to female transexual.

not quite sure why you would go for it as your baby name....goes well with Bunnylove though eh?

not made at all on Phalia.....however you pronounce it its too much like Failure....the mind boggles.

LynetteScavo · 09/07/2011 16:17

mumonahottinroof-I am an Antonia Forrest fan-are you thinking of the Marlowe twins' friend? Her proper name was Thalia wasn't it? She was the head mistress's niece if my memory is correct.

hightrees · 08/07/2011 13:31

montyburns · 08/07/2011 00:18

I came across an A n g e l - C u p c a k e this week

mathanxiety · 07/07/2011 18:46

Irish accent here so I pronounce my Rs properly -- Phalia not even close to 'failure'. But I think it's too close to phallic for comfort. Maybe the parents' accent makes a PH out of TH and they spelled it as they would say it?
