Isnt Effie short for Euphemia? Would people always ask what it is short for and annoy her no end as she repeatedly said no its just Effie? Same for Maggie too.

Very much like Katherine and Juliet.

SloganLogan · 01/07/2011 16:16

Annabel/Annie and Juliet are my favourites from your list.

Sylvia - pretty (and much nicer than Sylvie BTW)
Felicity - like
Maggie - a bit clunky
Alice - classic but dull
Effie/Effy - too much like effing (sorry!)
Katherine - nice, although I don't like Kate
Juliet - lovely
Annie - nice, especially as nickname
Romy - don't like
Nancy - too fancy
Annabel - lovely, and you could have Annie for short :)

expatnow · 01/07/2011 16:19

mummy! 6 of your names are the same as our short list! We must have similar taste. I'm due any second now and still can't decide... I keep changing my mind! Obviously I think your choices are lovely- I also liked Felicity, but DH said no, unfortunately. What are your thoughts about the possibility of Katherine becoming very popular because of the wedding- that put me off a bit, but I still love the name.

ellesabe · 01/07/2011 18:02

Sylvia - quite nice. Would you consider Sylvie?
Felicity - love
Maggie - 50 year-old busy-body comes to mind
Alice - meh
Effie/Effy - sounds like a swear word
Katherine - meh
Juliet - nice
Annie - love
Romy - alright
Nancy - love
Annabel- goodie two shoes

Psammead · 02/07/2011 14:05

I love Felicity and Alice.

triskaidekaphile · 02/07/2011 14:10

This is one of the first shortlists I've read for ages where I don't dislike any of the names! I really like Nancy, Annie, Juliet, Alice and Felicity.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 02/07/2011 14:14

Sylvia - ok
Felicity - nice
Maggie - not dso fond but I do like Margaret/Meg/Daisy
Alice - lovely
Effie/Effy - don't like
Katherine - nice but prefer it with a C
Juliet - nice
Annie - nice
Romy - don't like
Nancy - I always think it sounds a bit hard: it's not as pretty as most of your other choices
Annabel - ok

Hedwig3 · 04/07/2011 11:36

manicinsomniac · 06/07/2011 07:38

Sylvia - not keen
Felicity - love
Maggie - eugh, no
Alice - quite like
Effie - very sweet. Not sure about as a stand alone name
Katherine - like
Juliet - love. Especially spelt Juliette
Annie - not keen.
Romy - quite nice. Unusual
Nancy - don't like really
Annabel - quite nice. Prefer Annabelle spelling, looks more feminine.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 06/07/2011 21:29

From your list, I like:

Sylvia
Katherine (though I prefer it with a C)
Annie
Romy - we have a Romilly but don't shorten her name really, Isn't Romy a shortening of Rosemary, originally?
Nancy - we have one, she's fab and feisty. Known as Fancy Pants.

Sylvia is what i wanted to call my daughter, but the husband was dead set against it and lots of people pulled faces at me. they're all wrong though, it's a fantastic name!

mummy2b2011 · 11/07/2011 10:44

thursday, I've had exactly the same reaction with Sylvia- so many people pull faces, but it's amazing!

We've decided! I think we're going to go with Annabel (Annie for short).

For a middle name, we're thinking either Rose or Grace... but still trying to decide. Does anyone have any one syllable name ideas for the middle name?

Thanks for lots of great ideas!
