I need the best Scottish boys name in the world...

...to counteract the likelihood that his middle name will be -eek- Keith!!!

MN is after FIL (who is lovely, but whose name isn't, & who has no middle name!!).

First name needs to be Scottish as a family tradition. So I need the best, coolest, loveliest Scottish boy's name ever to distract from the awful MN!!

Thank you kindly. Really good ones please!!

Hi - this thread is a little old. If you’re looking for a Scottish baby name, find the most popular here. MNHQ

My family are from Elgin so I think that would draw laughter! Also maiden name is that of a a well known Elgin wool company. Baby Elgin might but a bit like calling my baby Boden Smile

Elgin is in Moray though & I'm still considering Murray!

Struan is ace.

Also love Nairn, Fraser and someone I know called their son Elgin, which shouldn't work but kind of does.

birdofthenorth · 30/06/2011 09:39

Grin to Cameron Blair Keith :-)

Is Wyatt Scottish? That's a family name on my non-Scots side so could please everyone if I can prove it's Scots credentials!!

More please!

Finlay? Is that scottish? I also thought Lachlan was Scottish and was going to suggest that.
Dougie as a nn for Douglas so then he's Douglas Keith as a 'proper' name but has a nice nn option?

BulletWithAName · 30/06/2011 08:52

Cameron or Connor.

k8athome · 30/06/2011 06:28

Brodie often used as a girl's name here. I am voting for Hamish, followed by Fergus.

mathanxiety · 30/06/2011 06:24

Love Sholto. How about Wyatt? Is it Scottish-ey?

WheeshtWillYe · 30/06/2011 05:59

Innes
Ruairidh / Rory
Struan
Fraser
Findlay
Alexander (Alec / Sandy)

Hmmm, should I have another DC just because I still have some names to use?

squifflybobs · 30/06/2011 05:45

Mine are euan and finlay - also like rory but too many friends and relatives got there first...

What about Cameron Blair Keith, just for balance, like?

Fifis25StottieCakes · 29/06/2011 23:25

Jamieson Grin

jackandlola · 29/06/2011 23:21

Blair?

I like Brodie but I like it as a girls name. I have an Ainslie (DD) but quite like Ainsley for a boy.

My favourite is Lauchlan (pron Loch-lan as apposed to lach-lan, i know, i know before people moan) but you can't have it as i'll be using it for DS1 if we ever have a ds! :)

ggirl · 29/06/2011 23:16

Crawford

JimmyGrin 'see youuuuuu jimmy'

Rufus..is this scottish??

Carrotsandcelery · 29/06/2011 23:08

Struan is the best Scottish boy's name out there.

Innes and Hamish are also excellent but Struan is the very best.

Struan Keith sounds acceptable too.

Bess and Struan also works well.

Struan, Struan, Struan...

(I am still waiting for my Struan - my ds has an Irish(ish) name!!)

kalo12 · 29/06/2011 23:06

Robert
Bruce
Hamish

duckdodgers · 29/06/2011 23:03

Im Scottish and I think 2 out of my 3 boys have Scottish names, DS 1 is Connor and DS3 is Finlay, obviously the 2 best Scottish names ever. Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 29/06/2011 22:59

Malcolm Keith - very forthright and majestic sounding

tiptoptally · 29/06/2011 22:56

Fraser
Campbell
Keir (tho maybe not with Keith...)
Murray
Lachlan
Brodie
Aaron
Jock
Jimmy
Lyle
Sandy/Alex/Zander
Roderick (Roddy)

meala · 29/06/2011 22:42

I love Lachlan too. I'm sure it's Scottish too. Apparently means from the land of the lochs and can have referred to Scandinavian vikings

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 29/06/2011 22:41

My vote is for Hamish. It suits a boy and a man and isn't overly common.

Murray is good for a rugby player.

Conkertree · 29/06/2011 22:36

We have a Struan and an Angus so wouldnt like to narrow it down to just one, but reading with interest as pg with ds3 and I'm guessing it'll be a boy, so will carry one watching with interest.

Is Lachlan irish by the way? It seems to mean warrior from the lochs, which would suggest it coud be Scottish too - guess the history of the two places is probably intertwined anyway.

Popbiscuit · 29/06/2011 22:28

Angus.

TantePiste · 29/06/2011 22:25

Robert.

Period.

Folds arms.
