girls name has been ruined!! find me another

girls name forever ruined by project acronym at work.

it was Esme. Don't want comments on Esmeee/Esmay or how it's a rubbish name - i love it and now i'm heartbroken (sniff). But could never show my face at work again or look at her without thinking of stupid project.

other contenders not quite living up to it are Eden, Tamsin, Freya, Briony (which i love and dh doesn't), and poss Mathilda although a shorter name would prob work better with our surname.

any suggestions for an alternative for me to fall in love with?

I quite liked Prudence when I was pregnant,but as I was teaching in a Pupil Referal Unit I just couldn't do it!

consider this... its a secret name but the loveliest name there is, as you are so upset i shall share with you - but don't tell anyone.

this name is Cecelia or to be more commonly refered to as Celia or Cece. Cecelia is the patron saint of music

ihave an Emma - and i call her Esme Wink theres a way round it

you could use esme as the middle name and use the middle name.

I think Dulcie sounds like it might appeal to the parents of an Esme. Or Lois or Greta or Nina.

Where I worked, we used to talk about going out for a ruby murray. NO way could I have used Ruby. My colleagues would have laughed themselves all the way up brick lane if I'd named a child Ruby. This was at the point when Ruby wasn't so popular. It was still unusual 2002.

Is it a project that will be running for a long time? Is it a job that you are likely to be in for a long time?

Personally, if the only 'issue' is that some of your colleagues might giggle and/or raise eyebrows when you take her in during maternity leave to meet them, I would be inclined to use your beloved name anyway.

I have found that although some work things feel massive at the time they can disappear pretty quickly. Whereas if in 10 years time you are still feeling like "oh I love the name Esme" I think that will be a much bigger cause of discontent.

How about Elsa, Elodie. Emmeline or similar if you can't have Esme?

If it was me I'd be tempted to switch jobs & stick to Esme though Grin
