baby name wobble with 3 weeks to go

I have posted before and now just wanting some fresh opinions before my little girl arrives in 3 weeks time.

Me and hub have 3 names on the top of our list. Trouble is i find i'm always on the look out for something better, its like nothing is perfect enough for my baby girl. Has anyone else felt like this or am i just hormonal and mad...lol.

so our names are as follows:

Laila - the name we've always loved and said would be our little girls name - but sinse becoming pregnant i'm worried its become a little common popular. i hate it spelt layla and if i spell it laila will she have a lifetime of correcting people.

Florence - my hubs fave. i love it too but after IVF and fertility websites i am familiar with the term AF so Flo as a nn would be a no no and Florrie is ok but still not great.

Eliza - My fave. The only thing is that hubby's signifiant ex was Liz (elizabeth) so i wouldn't want Liz as a nn and would it be weird of me to use it if its a derivative of my hubby's ex's name....

names that have been vetoed by dh are beatrice, harriet (hattie) and eleanor and lots of others..lol. He likes sadie and lexie but i've vetoed them.

any opinions or fresh suggestions would be great

thanks

A child would be Lizzie rather than Liz despite all your best efforts! and then when she is old enough to want to change to Liz, she would be your Liz rather than Liz like DH's ex. Similaly, If you had a Flo that would then be her name rather than Aunt Flo.
I have a Jennifer, who was NEVER going to be a Jenny, until she started calling herself that! I like Sadie too.

olddeuteronomy · 25/06/2011 12:36

I think they are all lovely apart from Lexie which you are right to veto, and Sadie is ok but sounds a bit nicknamey.

Leila is nice but would definitely associate with a dark haired child as I think it means night, would findit odd on a very fairchildbut maybe just me.

Agree nicknames for Florence not great.

Iwould go for Eliza or Leila as that seems to be your favourite. Do not think Eliza would get called Liz more likely Liza.

am exactly the same! our first dd after three boys is due in 3 weeks, and so i feel the pressure of getting the name right. Chose a boys name just in case!!

Loved Florence too but do not Florrie.

So our shortlist is Constance and Isla but still not sure if right??

I like Eliza and can see more likely to be Liza than Liz tbh?

OneHelluvaBroad · 25/06/2011 11:48

Leila is the nicest spelling, imo. I really like it.

Eliza is lovely, too (although definitely suddenly hiked up on popularity).

Florence is OK, but it is definitely the new Ella/Evie/Gracie - middle class mum's name Grin

poppydaisy · 25/06/2011 11:45

Prefer Laila. Lovely and underused.

jellybeans · 25/06/2011 11:22

I think they are all OK. Prefer Laila as the other two are quite 'old fashioned' but that isn't a bad thing, just personal preference. DD has a friend Eliza and she has Izzi as nn.

birdofthenorth · 25/06/2011 11:22

Eliza is a fab name. I wouldn't associate it with Liz... & my DD is Elizabeth!

TBH I sort of agree with you on Laila becoming "popular" Grin & there being nickname issues with Florence (also David Cameron having one would put me off, even though it's a lovely name!).

From the ones you've each vetoed I LOVE Sadie (try it on bump so a day, great under-used name!!) & Hattie (friend just had a gorgeous one & gets nothing but nice comments on her name, do maybe try working on DH!).

natsmum100 · 25/06/2011 11:02

Laila is lovely - better spelt that way than Layla. I also like Eliza and Sadie. Not so keen on Florence.
You've got great names to choose from and plenty of time to decide.

missingmargarita · 25/06/2011 11:01

I think as long as you called her Liza or Eliza rather than Liz, shouldn't be wierd at all!

I love hattie, but having a feeling DH would nix that too, and agree - not sure about sadie or lexie!

And not sure about Florence - would always think of Florence and the Machines!!

Like Laila and don't think you would have an issue with people saying it wrong, but it is very unusual!
