Lady Honoria Lawrence, wife of Sir Henry Lawrence, was quite the woman. I think it is a great name.

smartyparts · 25/06/2011 22:23

Am biased as it's my godmothers name, but I love it. Pronounced On-NOR-ia

rachel234 · 25/06/2011 11:53

I like it and would pronounce it Hon-OR-ia. Lovely and undersused!

pjani · 24/06/2011 14:43

I'm surprised at myself, but I like it. I don't usually like old-fashioned names, and I don't really like Honor, but Honoria is cool!

IslaValargeone · 24/06/2011 14:39

What is it with fannys and std names this week?

Hedwig3 · 24/06/2011 14:37

I like Honora but probably because I LOVE Nora.

Bue · 24/06/2011 13:30

I have a family friend Honoria. She's in her twenties now. It's a great name! It's pronounced Hon-OR-ia (emphasis on middle syllable).

DELHI · 24/06/2011 13:02

My gran is called Honora (pronounced On-ooor-ra) I think its a beautiful name, prettier than Honor, not as fussy/poncey as Honoria

No, Honor is far better!

SloganLogan · 23/06/2011 20:23

Honoria sounds a bit like honorarium.

ah-NOH-ree-uh - this must be the name with an American accent (were you looking on an American website?) Surely the first syllable is "o" as in dog, not "ah", if you're English.

Honor is very pretty.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 23/06/2011 19:37

on-OR-ee-a would probably be more accurate in my family.

Peachy · 23/06/2011 19:34

I wondered too

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 23/06/2011 19:33

BaaBaa is right, it's 'On-or-eea' - it's a family name for me too.

mintymellons · 23/06/2011 19:31

I too wondered if pronounced like gonorrhoea!

Lonnie · 23/06/2011 19:26

I fidn it interesting that people will no listen to the pronounciation and yet recently we had a thread on how to say Aoife and posters were telling the OP that it could never be I-fa...

as it is I am not pregnant but I actually think this is beautiful and that surprised me as I do no at all care for Honor I find it harsh and unplesant

no no no no no it rhymes with the std.

BaaBaaHerdwickSheep · 22/06/2011 21:19

Some of the comments above are hilarious! Particularly given how popular Honor has become recently.

It is my mum's name. It is pronounced 'On-or-eea' and has traditionally been the long-form of Honor. It is also often shortened to Nora. I had a great aunt who had that variant.

I think it's lovely, natch.

basingstoke · 22/06/2011 21:11

Honoria Glossop. Scary sometime fiancee of Bertie Wooster. Not for me.

Lonnie · 22/06/2011 21:08

its used in 2 Agatha Christie books Murder is East and Cat Amongst the Pidgeons.

its interesting how many mention Honor that I do no like at all but I do actually liek Honoria

This is the name of a murderer in an Agatha Christie and all I can see is a barking mad Honoria.I do much prefer Honor ,lovely name.

Lonnie · 22/06/2011 20:53

It isn't pronounced ah-NER-ee-ah, like "gonorrhea", but ah-NORE-ee-ah, with a heavy NORE sound like in "Eleanor" or "Nora".

OneHelluvaBroad · 22/06/2011 20:48

Gonororhea (sp?).

Vile.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 22/06/2011 20:48

Too much. Honor, on the other hand, is beautiful.
