Edie, Edith... too popular?

I will be having a little girl and quite like the name 'Edie'. Is it too popular? She'll be my first, and I don't know anyone with kids in the area to run it past... What does the wisdom of Mumsnet of say?

It's on our girls shortlist. I like it as a nn for Meredith or Edith.

i know a 5 year old edith, its lovely name, but it is coming up the charts at 112 i believe.

I dunno about Edie being too childish for an adult ... I know a few adult Edies (40s/50s) and have never felt it childish.

My SIL is called Edith and she really rocks it. I think it's a fairly strong name though, not everyone can carry it off.

I prefer Edith as it's nice for a child but also an adult, Edie is too childish for an adult.

We name our daughter Edith, Edie for short. It was a name me and my husband came up with together. All other girls name's we didn't agree with. I'm really love it, Edie is a cheeky name but Edith also sounds grown up, elegant and a little quirky. I'm hearing it more and more nowadays too but I don't think it will be too popular which is nice. It's not overly "pretty" but it is sweet. I didn't want a sickly pretty name, I think Edith has gumption but is delicate at the same time. My mum, dad and Nan turned their noses up when I told them it was an option for my unborn child, it kind of made me want to call her it more!! Grin but it's prob as its from their era. Anyway good luck with naming your child. It's a hard job Confused

We recently stayed with a George and Edith on holiday (though she was Hungarian so actually Edite). Seems to be a popular combination! :)

Edith was my grandmothers name, it was usually shortened to Edie

I wanted to call my daughter Edith but unfortunately it wasn't a goer 20 years ago.

Ragged her husband was also called George Grin

Was supposed to be DD's name but my mum said I couldn't name her first grandchild after her MIL so she ended up as Edita instead - can still be Edie when the original karks it Grin

I have met maybe two in nearly 3 years if that helps.

It's not that popular. We're using it for a middle name for our LO, due on Sunday :) I should warn you though, we did think of using it for a first name but decided on Isobel, so popularity probably doesn't faze us that much!

I think it is one of those unusual names that people notice, so the perception is that it is quite popular, yet not many people will have met more than one!

IBy the way I'm in East Anglia and I've never met another Edith.
