Stella

OK - my daughter is still not here. I am now 41 weeks ...

My DH's favourite name is Stella.

When I told my Dad he said -"Really? Like the beer?"

But its a nice name I think - does it matter that an 'orrible lager is named after it?

What do you think?

(Mumsnet collectively provided great feedback on my favourite name last week, so its DH's turn this week!)

Takes me back to my schooldays, reading 'A Streetcar Named Desire' -- Stella will always be linked with a sort of hopeful-but-realistic-future in my mind.

But then, I don't drink beer ;)

Haven't read all comments but I love it. First image that comes to mind Brando at his most gorgeous dripping wet screaming "Stella" in "A Streetcar named Desire".

Name not NAND! Bloody predictive phone. What is a NAND when it's at home anyway?

Thanks for all your comments. I'd never heard of Estella before, and we'll definitely consider it.

Both DH and me can't NAND her til we meet her, and as baby Stella/Phoebe/Tallulah is still not here we're no closer to a decision!

10 days over and I have a feeling she'll stay put til the induction. But it's not long til we meet her now!

Thanks again

Love the name.

deliciousdevilwoman · 19/06/2011 23:39

Love both Stella and Estella. Sweet for a little girl and quite cool for an adult.

WottingerAndWottingerAreDead · 19/06/2011 22:56

Love Stella but if you're worried about the beer connections go for Estella and have Stella as nn. But have known an adult Stella the past 20 yrs and the beer never once crossed my mind, nor did it when Stella was on my names shortlist for DC.

madhattershouse · 19/06/2011 00:49

A friend of mine is quite a drinker. Her daughter went to pre-school and when they all said their names one little girl said Stella...she then shouted "Beer!". Nuff said Grin

Sheepasaurus · 19/06/2011 00:42

I like it, I know a Stella and she loves it!

SloganLogan · 18/06/2011 23:43

I like it, but think Estella is even nicer.

typsical · 18/06/2011 22:42

It makes me think of the baby in 'Shameless', sorry!

bananamom · 18/06/2011 21:43

I immediately think of the lager I'm afraid. I also find it quite harsh sounding. How about Saskia?

Panzee · 18/06/2011 21:27

If you're worried about Stella Artois then Estella would be no better. Estrella Damm lager anyone?

Personally I love them both (the lagers and the names)

ebbandflow · 18/06/2011 21:23

Ooh there's an active thread about induction-might be useful for you, good luck.

ebbandflow · 18/06/2011 21:21

Just reminds me of the McCartney one, Estelle though is a fab name.

MelinaM · 18/06/2011 21:18

Artois here too.

FridayFanjoFun · 18/06/2011 18:14

Lovely. I don't think of the beer at all.

peanutbutterkid · 18/06/2011 18:12

Beer, vegetarian fanatics.

Estella would be okay.

BrigitBigKnickers · 18/06/2011 17:57

Estelle/ Estella lovely.

Stella- sweet but the beer is the first thing that comes to mind.

darleneoconnor · 18/06/2011 17:48

pointydog · 18/06/2011 17:46

I love Stella. Estella is even more beautiful if it works with your surname. What's your favourite name?

PanelMember · 18/06/2011 17:37

Love it - it was our second choice name for dd. We liked that it means 'star' in Latin. The Stella Artois thing didn't really cross our radar.
