Girl's name to go with Narnia

We were thinking 'Gondor' because that is such a beautiful city, but does it sound too masculine? Also, does it sound too much like Goneril? She was awful, so that would be a horrible name to saddle a girl with.

I like Nessa, its quite common here in Ireland too. Mariel will always remind me of Muriels Wedding when she changed her name :)

ThatVikRinA22 · 21/06/2011 00:36

arwen is lovely but a bit too obvious for me, thought Estel, Mariel and Nessa are all lovely.

god listen at me....ill be growing my hair next and LARPing....

PamBeesly · 21/06/2011 00:25

Me too vicar and while those names might be a bit far out for me I entirely respect the OP's name choices...my most far out name choice would be Arwen, I think is beautiful :)

ThatVikRinA22 · 21/06/2011 00:18

opened the link from pambeesly and while i did think this whole thread was a total pisstake i actually think some of those names are lovely....

latenightmum · 21/06/2011 00:09

Midsummer's night dreamesque

latenightmum · 21/06/2011 00:07

Seren, Elin, Ophir, Genevieve, Harper

QueenofDreams · 20/06/2011 23:43

ooh yes Perelandra. I forgot I'd read those books. Strange visions of Mars and Venus and a spherical space ship as I recall.

Fennel · 20/06/2011 16:09

Oh yes Perelandra is very good. Those books were a bit weird though.

Fimbo · 20/06/2011 16:08

Chardonnay or Lionel

PatriciatheStripper · 20/06/2011 16:07

I got one. Perelandra :)

Fennel · 20/06/2011 16:04

I knew a real woman called Arwen Evenstar. She liked it.

smashinghairday · 20/06/2011 15:55

Cal-Pol.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/06/2011 12:11

Medised has a nice ring to it too Wink

Ivortheengine8 · 20/06/2011 08:33

Shire is way too common though really. I wouldnt want my child named like half of the UK (even though I was born in a Shire)
What about something a little more medicinal in term?
Germoline
Aqueus
Bacterion
Corny
Betabatta
Eumovate
Hydrocort
Canesten

tribpot · 20/06/2011 08:26

One has visions of even River Phoenix's mum - and Frank Zappa - sucking their teeth and asking "Shire? Are you quite sure, dear?". Gwyneth would probably be on board, though.

smashinghairday · 20/06/2011 08:20

Shire - ha!!!

What about Cob or shetland? Grin

All these names are godawful. Narnia? I mean, really!

mybrainsthinkingfuckyou · 20/06/2011 01:47

Shire - is his dad hung like a horse then?
Jadis is the one to go for. Then she can have a sibling rivalry with
Aslan and they can fight over Narnia.

If you are in fact a real person who is just a bit dungeons and dragonsy then
Caspian is nicer than Shire.

DD could be called Nirvana ( i did know one pre grunge).

tigercametotea · 20/06/2011 01:26

I didn't know Aslan is of Turkish origin. Meaning of Aslan Well there are lots of Turkish names here and some of them sound decidedly Narnia-ish Turkish Baby Names

GrimmaTheNome · 20/06/2011 00:42

I actually do know someone with a child called Aslan - he's from somewhere in the former soviet union, and apparently its a pretty standard name there.

Maybe you should look at other names from that area for inspiration?

PamBeesly · 20/06/2011 00:33

Hi Op I stumbled across this... nameberry.com/blog/tolkien-names-naming-your-children-in-elvish

Panzee · 19/06/2011 22:20

Per Una has a bit of a ring to it.

tribpot · 19/06/2011 22:16

Mista-Tumble could certainly be unfortunate. Although I suspect Ms Mrs-Beaver could be worse? I have had grave difficulty explaining to ds since he watched The Voyage of the Dawn Treader that Eustace's name is not, in fact, Useless. So that's one bullet dodged.

smashinghairday · 19/06/2011 21:26

Tribpot - ah, indeed.

Though I do believe the OP is looking for a girl's name so she will be Miss Mista-Tumnus.

Mind you, she could end up being called Mista-Tumble in error.
