Nice or weird?

I like that they are different names and go together well.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Harmony makes me think of hairspray still. 'Is she or isn't she?...' I'm showing my age.

BrainSurgeon · 16/06/2011 22:54

Sorry OP I have to agree with the majority, I don't think it's a good idea...
(made me smile though)

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 16/06/2011 22:48

Are you serious? Harmony was a hairspray and Melody the title of some awful film/musical in the early 70s. What's wrong with a couple of normal names that are not matchy matchy.

There are far, far, far, FAR better ways of having 'matching' twin names, without giving them such saccharine themed names. To be perfectly honest, it's the kind of twin set I can imagine a young girl might come up with, when fantasising about what she'll call her children when she's older. When I was about 8-years old, I said I'd name girl twins Star & Sky or Autumn & Winter, names I've now grown out of.

How about going for names that have the same meaning, but to the ordinary person on the street, wouldn't be so obviously linked?

These are not suggestions, rather examples of what I mean:

Seren & Tara - both mean "star", Seren in Welsh, Tara in Sanskrit.
Anwen & Belle - both mean "beautiful", Anwen in Welsh, Belle from Latin.

BuntyPenfold · 16/06/2011 22:41

Melody and Romilly is perfect actually.

Oakmaiden · 16/06/2011 22:27

Well, I like them.

darleneoconnor · 16/06/2011 22:27

I like the idea, I like twin names that 'go'.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 16/06/2011 22:27

Sorry I had the same thought as wannabe .... You have brought back horrific memories of me being dressed as the big red book (Melody, I think!) in the stage production at our sunday school. so its a definite NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
from me.

And I clicked the link and now I have the flippin' song in my head too!

Tillyscoutsmum · 16/06/2011 22:25

wannabe I remember the same thing from a Sunday school musical. I was Melody

But OP - no. Just no

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 16/06/2011 22:25

Terrible - and I say that as somebody whose dp had to stamp their feet and say no when I suggested Melody for dd1!

UrsulaBuffay · 16/06/2011 22:23

How's about Ebony & Ivory?
Black Lace & Kajagoogoo?

meditrina · 16/06/2011 22:22

I'm not keen on Harmony, but Melody's OK.

Right now, people may conclude you're a huge Doctor Who fan.

superjobeespecs · 16/06/2011 22:21

no no no no no no no no no!

When I was at school we used to have to listen to some christian recording - I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was kind of a dramatised thing about a song book that came to life and sang all these happy clappy songs to a group of kids, and then the story continued on that the song book (whose name was salty) met another book (whose name escapes me) and they had three little booklets called... melody and harmony and...rhythm!

diggingintheribs · 16/06/2011 22:13

Sorry too themed - I was singing the names to the tune of 'Ebony & Ivory' in my head

Melody is nice but Harmony is a bit of a millstone (you just know she's going to have the worst teenage hormones!)

emmanumber3 · 16/06/2011 22:13

Oh dear, no. That certainly wouldn't be my choice. Far too twee & icky - sorry. And really, they are the same name - two words meaning one thing.

Sorry to be so negative.

FromGirders · 16/06/2011 22:13

Melody, Harmony, Symphony and Rhapsody are all varieties of strawberries.

And Captains Scarlet's Angels.

Just so you know :)

peeriebear · 16/06/2011 22:13

Weren't they the sisters in the Queen's Nose?

IHeartKingThistle · 16/06/2011 22:12

The two sisters in the children's book 'The Queen's Nose' are called that. Melody is the horrible one.

Honestly, the names are OK separately but if I met twins called that I'd be PMSL for days and days. Truly awful.

Sorry, but you did ask!
