My dd is Dorotea and we call her Dora for short (except dh who often calls her Dottie Doodle). My cousin's dd has the same name (named after the same grandmother) and is called Tea for short. My other cousin's dd is Dorothy Rose (same grandmother...she was very loved) and they called her by her full (!) name Dorothy Rose. None of us have any regrets about our choices.

I'm having trouble imagining a baby Dorothy at all. Dorothy's are 80 to me - sorry!

But, if I had to, 'Dorrie'

I really like it, and ALL of the shortenings too. My great aunt was Dorothy and she was always known as Doff.

I've been considering this as my friend wants to use it, and I've been thinking Dotty would be best... but the two just don't naturally join to me, so I'd probably use Dorrie if she was my own.
My name's Holly though, so I couldn't use Dolly even if I wanted to.

I think Thea is a beautiful name, and have been considering this for dc2 due this week, but think it should really be a nn for Dorothea rather than Dorothy

Dorothy is a family name. I like it but am not wild about it. It'd mean a lot to DH so mulling it over.

Think Dorrie is my favourite but we have an R surname & it might run together a bit (though I suppose you don't combine nicknames with surnames necessarily).
