I like Greta and Marta. A friend was going to call her dd Gretchen, which I thought was cool but others hated.

spaghettina · 18/06/2011 14:20

I love it! Can't get as common as Ava, surely? It is a bit harsher sounding so not going to be as popular I'd have thought...

birdofthenorth · 18/06/2011 10:34

Fab name Smile

mathanxiety · 18/06/2011 06:57

Love it. Will last a lifetime -- very elegant in a grown up, sweetly serious for a child.

deliciousdevilwoman · 17/06/2011 22:05

My DD aged 6 months is Greta Rose Isobel. DH wanted Olivia, but I stuck to my guns! He loves it now. For me, the attraction of Greta was that it's not common, is sweet for a little girl without being twee and I think, quite sexy for a woman (Greta Saachi, anyone?!)

Sad

And there I thought I was being brave... I don't want to end up with the next Ava

I like it - I know two baby Gretas...thinking it might be a name that is becoming more popular

Jojay · 12/06/2011 20:54

Love it. I had a horse once called Allegreta and I thought at the time it was a beautiful name for a human!

FridayFanjoFun · 12/06/2011 20:52

Love Greta (Grett-ah)

Gorgeous name

TheRealMBJ · 12/06/2011 20:47

Oooooo interesting cross post with sloganlogan.

bibbitybobbityhat · 12/06/2011 20:07

Sorry, but I just can't force myself to like it.

Even though dd's best friend at nursery had that name and I though her parents were v cool, and I liked and admired them a lot.

I think it has a hard edge.

SloganLogan · 12/06/2011 20:04

Not keen on Greta I'm afraid, I find it a bit harsh.

baskingseals · 12/06/2011 18:45

love it
also love Marta
go for it

TheRealMBJ · 12/06/2011 18:38

DH has suggested Annagreta nn Greta. I'm not convinced.(But, then, I think he is taking the piss a bit as he doesn't really like Greta Sad)

Love Greta, but prefer Gretchen

PatriciatheStripper · 12/06/2011 12:52

Gretchen is a German diminutive of Margarethe, so all these names are variations of Margaret (meaning pearl).

cheapFlower · 12/06/2011 12:36

love it! really wanted it for DD2 but could not convince DP :(

smother · 12/06/2011 11:25

Love - it's definitely a grower

lordsugarslovechild · 12/06/2011 10:37

love.

woopsidaisy · 12/06/2011 10:10

I love Greta, I have a lovely friend called Greta, but she spells it Gretta.

cumbria81 · 12/06/2011 07:12

I know a Greta (pron. Greeta), don't much like it I'm afraid. It's quite ugly.

Dragonwoman · 11/06/2011 22:45

Gree-ta is a legitimate pronunciation of Greta. Greta Garbo was Swedish and so her pronunciation was originally more foreign but caught on in the UK. Greta is a form of the name Margaret. Margareta - Greta. Smile

Pancakeflipper · 11/06/2011 22:38

I have an Aunt called Greta but it isn't pronounced the Garbo way but "Greet-a". Is that a known name or just my family getting it wrong again?
