pretty common in 60 year old irish men? that's very interesting. I think that might have put me off.

it sounds quite nice i think, but reminds me of rascal

oohlaalaa · 09/06/2011 12:59

Awful

GrassCutter · 09/06/2011 11:57

Pascal is also the name of a programming language - I prefer Bruno too

seeker · 09/06/2011 11:27

I know it is, but who wants to go through life saying "My name's Pascal without an e"

I speak as someone who has gone through life saying "My name's Cathleen with a C"

rachel234 · 09/06/2011 09:33

I like Pascal (seeker the female version is Pascale) and don't think you need a particular surname (perhaps not one starting with P if you don't like alliterations), but I much prefer Bruno.

seeker · 09/06/2011 08:50

Do you have a slightly poncy last name too? Could you pretend convincingly that you are part French? Do you mind that it's usually a girl's name?

kiteflying · 09/06/2011 08:43

My daughter's favourite movie is Tangled - so for me it is the name of the pet chameleon

UndiscoveredApprentice · 08/06/2011 23:59

poncey - sorry

AlfalfaMum · 08/06/2011 23:47

Mollydoggerson gosh, yes, there was a Pascal used to work in my Granny's bakery, I'd say he'd be just about 60 now :o (I wonder if you're thinking oif the same man)

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/06/2011 23:24

Oakmaiden - yes, like Fortran!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/06/2011 23:22

I like it. Even considered it for one of mine.

Mollydoggerson · 08/06/2011 23:22

I dislike the sound of the name, simple as that.

Pretty common in 60 year old Irish men.

EdithWeston · 08/06/2011 23:08

Nice name, but strongly religious (think Pascal Lamb etc) and very closely associated with Easter.

culturemulcher · 08/06/2011 22:27

Slightly flowery / flouncy, but nice.

Greythorne · 08/06/2011 22:27

I hate it but that's because I was forced to read "Les Pensées de Pascal" at university. Blaise Pascal was a boring religious nutter and I can't escape the memory of him and his dreadful pensées.
sorry!

Oakmaiden · 08/06/2011 22:24

Isn't that a computer programming language?

Karbea · 08/06/2011 22:19

It's a French name, wouldn't work if you live in uk

ThePieSmuggler · 08/06/2011 22:15

Erm, not keen at all, reminds of high school physics (there was a Pascal's Law I think) but I seem to be in the minority, and if you like it OP then that's all that matters!

How would you pronounce it in English - PASS-cal or Pas-CALL. I think it sounds lovely in French but am not sure about the English pronunciation.

Personally I prefer Bruno - strong name that works well in all languages (well, it is pronounced the same in German, English and French)

mathanxiety · 08/06/2011 21:45

I might actually assume Irish grandfather if I met a child with the name.

LetThereBeRock · 08/06/2011 21:45

Love it.

BelleEnd · 08/06/2011 21:43

perplexedpirate :o :o :o

Will only work for people with French connections imo

perplexedpirate · 08/06/2011 21:42

My DS has a toy lizard named Pascal and I can't get past that to tell whether or not it is actually a nice name. To me it's just a lizard that lives on the bookshelf.

That almost certainly doesn't help, sorry.
