Names you love but were not brave/crazy enough to call your child/children.

Mine were, wait for it Tallullah for a girl and Rockey for a boy!!! Yes I know!!!

All the way through my pregnancy with DS2 I wanted to call him Raphael (DS1 is named after the other archangel...). Just when DH had come round to the idea I chickened out and it's now his middle name!

Winter (I love winter, but also after the heroine in an MM Kaye book)

Tigerlily (DH actually agreed to this one, in fact was keen, but I chickened)

Sorry I realise they aren't exactly crazy names but nevertheless names I personally wouldn't be brave enough to use/ get DP to agree to.

Atlas, Noah or Henry or Harry.
Ok, not very out there names but for one reason or another it just never happened.
I still am toying with Harry not sure I can convince DP though.

I asked DD about this now she's older and she didn't like any of them except Morvern. But she prefers her own name, which is one that's regularly suggested on MN.

indi was another, i love that so much its def a regret as much as i love dds name (which is rather unusual :o)

I love the name Polly and would have called DD2 this, but chose Felicity instead which really suits her!

I loved Merlin when pregnant with DS but DP talked me out of it. It is a good job I thought DS looked like his name on delivery day as he would have probably ended up a Merlin as I think I would have got anything past him that day!

I know an Iolanthe, a friend named her first DD this. They live in Cyprus so not sure if it is not a more usual name there.

we had to avoid a whole section of the baby names book, two letters of the alphabet for either gender, as it would make our child's name into the "butt" of jokes as it's another word for arse

I had an idea from childhood that if I had a boy I would call him Caspian - from "Prince Caspian" but did not have the nerve - it would have been vetoed by dh anyway I am sure. When I hear people seriously considering it now I feel a little pang.

I liked Alaska for a girl (have visited and its a stunningly beautiful place) and Willa (Six Feet Under fans out there?)
I had boys so no issues in the end.

My little one is a Morwenna, also really Liked Arwen and Rhiannon. I liked Tegwyn as ablove, and Carys but DH said no no...

Really love the names Calypso and Tallulah.
Wanted a Cecily, but pleased we didn't go for it as DD has a lisp and our surname begins with an S...
I liked Aurelie - DH said it sounds great with a French accent, but not in English (orally?!).

After finding the perfect name for my son (unusual but not weird, spelt phonetically, goes really well with our surname) I thought coming up with a girl's name would be easy but I really struggled, nearly all the ones I loved were seriously Welsh, which unfortunately we are not!

In the end I let DH pick but I've never been really happy with it. When she was about 2 I heard the name Tegwyn and that's what she'd have been if I'd heard it sooner, she's very glad I didn't.

For all the Tallulah fans there are about one in each year group in my kids school!

Ah, PG Wodehouse, what a legend! Pelham is a great name.

I was keen on Pelham Granville*, nicknamed Plum. Would have been good for a boy or a girl, too.

Wanted to call DS Owen but DH vetoed on grounds of having worked with a bloke called Owen who was a t**t. Agreed on Ben, but although I couldn't imagine him being anything else now, I've never really loved the name.

Got my way with DD though. Not exactly after my late gran (she was Jessie) but after one of my strongest memories of her. We used to avidly watch The Waltons together when I was little and I always loved the name Erin (one of Waltons sisters). Fortunately DH was OK with it. Genuinely reminds me of my gran!

Stargate!! I do love the name, but to be fair it does look like a mistype!

I wanted Sacha for DS1, by XH wanted him to be hisname jr, snooore, so we took his middle name, removed a letter and he became Andre.

Always loved the name Zeus for a boy, but DH thinks it sounds like a dogs name!! Love the suggestion of Elsie...really cute.

My son's name has pootled past:o Love his name. My daughter is named for a character out of classical mythology, but she has yet to trundle through this thread.
I did contemplate Morpheus for my son, and as he enjoys a good kip I maybe should have gone with my instincts :o

Octavia (unsuitable really, as it isn't my 8th)

Struggling for boys names, all I can really come up with this far is Benedict, but I have a fair few months to get my mushed brain in gear.
