Boys names like Ben and Alex (to go with Max)

Hi. I am looking for a name for DS2. DS1 is Maximilian (mostly called Max),

I love Benjamin (Ben) but DH has a cousin called this.

I also like Alexander (Alex) but it's very popular at the moment and I'm not sure about two names ending in 'x'.

I kind of want a longer name with a nickname that feels like a good solid, but cheeky, cool mate down the pub!

I also love Leon, but not sure it goes with Max.

Any other ideas for names in this vein?

Please no (obviously) bible or traditional names such as Noah or Edward.

Thanks in advance.

What about Alexander with a different nn?

Max and Zander

Robert (Rob). Why does no one use this nowadays?

duke748 · 02/06/2011 19:24

Big thanks for all the ideas! Will run them past DH. Any others left?

Some of these names are

  1. people at work (don't want them to think I named LO after them!)
  2. friend's babies
  3. ex boyfriends (not sure DH would go for that!)

It's so bloody difficult, isn't it?

face it, you've chosen the best boy's name already and nothing else will sound right! at least that's my feeling, having a max and reading this (also pg but don't know yet if boy or girl).

these are a bit dull but I suppose I'm thinking along the lines of Tom (Thomas) or Ted (Edward - I see you rejected already). I like Sam but I have a cousin by that name. Max and Sam sounds pretty good though.

mmm. struggling now. George?

I have a Ben and it is the best boys name ever. Does it really matter about your DHs cousin? I know some Bens who I hated but my Ben is lovely :)

I also liked Sam a lot when we were choosing a name.

JamieAgain · 01/06/2011 13:17

Max and Asa
Max and Lucas/Luke

Was going to say Max and Patrick/Paddy, but then thought of Phoenix Nights ....

Max and Evan
Max and Joseph/Joe

Ooh! Lots more ideas, thanks.

DHs cousin is an arse aparantly. Grr. Love, love, love Ben!

My best friend's son is Theo, which is another thing that put me off Leon as he couldn't be a Leo!

Hmmm.. Decisions, decisions.

Any others lovely ladies?

Does it matter that your DH has a cousin called Ben?
My cousins between them had Matthew, David and Mark and we have several Johns in the wider family and given our fondness for certain 70's science fiction we didn't dare think of Luke, which put paid to all the gospel writers, but half of me still wishes I'd thought stuffit and gone for one of them.
