I love this name. It sounds quite feminine. Why not for a girl?

My scottish friend has a daughter called Elliot.

raindroprhyme · 31/05/2011 18:58

love it for a girl

Wottywot · 31/05/2011 18:55

My little girl is Elisa madwoman - good choice! :)

madwomanintheattic · 31/05/2011 18:51

i knew a female ellis too. she'd be about 12 now. Grin

i actually quite like ellis for a girl.

one of my girls is an elise though, so i'm probably biased!

Wottywot · 31/05/2011 18:50

I agree Ellis is a boys name, I knew a boy at school called Elliot but never heard a girl called that.
Elisa?

meditrina · 31/05/2011 18:17

Ellis is a boys name (has rising in both UK and US top hundred boys names for a few years now).

The number of little girls called Ellie has dropped (a bit), but you can still expect to find plenty around (Ella, Eleanor, and Ellie as a free-standing name, have been in/near the top 20 for about a decade).

pilates · 31/05/2011 18:08

No its awful for a boy or a girl.

Why not Eleanor?

Dislike Ellie though.

oohlaalaa · 31/05/2011 16:40

No.

JanMorrow · 31/05/2011 16:38

I know of two baby girl Elliot's.. not to my taste but it's not unheard of eh!

onlylivinggirl · 31/05/2011 14:53

How about Ellis? I've seen this for girls and boys

mayanna123 · 31/05/2011 14:48

It is becoming more unisex along the lines of Rowan and Morgan. The nicknames of Elliot certainly sound girly to me (Elle, Ellie)

OddBoots · 31/05/2011 12:30

I like it, if I were to have another daughter I would go for a unisex name having been given food for thought by a feminist thread here.

Hatterbox · 31/05/2011 12:06

It's a boy's name.

There are countless girl's names out there, why do people have to keep using boy names on girls?

tummytickler · 31/05/2011 11:40

No! I would hate to be a boy called Elliot only to get to school and have to sit next to a girl with the same name (same goes for Robin/Rowan and othe boys names on girls).
I do like it for a boy though. It is one of dh's middle names.

snowshoes · 31/05/2011 10:33

No. I don't like boy's names on girls. The boys must get so sick of it!

Eglu · 31/05/2011 09:33

I asked this a while ago and got negative responses. I think it is a great name for a girl.

rainbowrain · 31/05/2011 09:32

I love the name Elliot but for a boy. If i seem to remember, Elliot in scrubs was called that as they thought she was going to be a boy.

Why not use, Elle, Ellie, Eleanor, Ella, Elsa?

rachel234 · 30/05/2011 21:04

Elliot Reid comes to mind. Ellie is a lovely nickname imo.

belgo · 30/05/2011 17:52

yes I find it too girly for a boy; and just ugly for a girl.

lalabaloo · 30/05/2011 17:47

How strange, I was wondering the exactsame thing this morning, I love the name for a boy or a girl to be honest. I think my family might not like it for a girl though (i also need to actually get pregnant first before I pick names)

ChessPiece · 30/05/2011 17:41

I once knew an Ellia.

squeak2392 · 30/05/2011 17:39

I love it!! I'm considering it for both a boy and a girl :)

valiumbandwitch · 30/05/2011 17:37

I prefer it for a girl. Always found it too girly for a boy.

4madboys · 30/05/2011 17:19

nope i have seen a prog about a family with sextuplets, they have an older daughter called Elliot, its american, and they spell it differently tho i think, it was on one of those living channels. anyhow it actually seemed to suit her and grew on me as a girls name :)
