Hello, my husband is really keen on naming our son (due in 10 weeks) Vincent or Vinnie for short. It brings a very strong mental image to my mind and I am just wondering what other people think of it?

Any comments welcomed!

I like Vincent but am not that keen on Vin/Vinnie, I'm afraid.

Tuschinski · 27/05/2011 17:14

Are you really me Bellbell????
My Dh is Vincent, I call him Vinny, his Mum calls him Vin!
His friends call him Vincenzo, e doesn't mind any of them but hates Vince as do I!

othersideofchannel · 27/05/2011 14:22

I like Vincent very much. Vince is nicer than Vinny imo.

BabesandJugs · 27/05/2011 12:08

Absolutely love Vinnie for short - not keen on Vince - just seems 'old' in my opinion.

Bellbell · 27/05/2011 10:49

I love Vincent, my DP's name, and he shortens it to Vinny which I much prefer to Vinnie. I do prefer the full name though, also reminds me of the beautiful Don Mclean song. His family call him Vin.

hulabula · 26/05/2011 12:27

"Vincent is an older man's name IMO"

But older people were babies too one day, you know. And the older people won't be around forever, by which time our children won't consider them as 'older people's names' Smile.

I really like Vincent, by the way. As well as Vince and Vinnie.

But Inter isn't that really a plus? I like the association of people who have originality and spark, even if there are some downsides.

valiumbandwitch · 26/05/2011 10:20

I really like it. I love Victor as well.

IntergalacticHussy · 26/05/2011 10:17

i love the name Vincent. It was on my shortlist for if dd2 had been a boy, until i realised i couldn't think of a single Vincent who wasn't slightly bonkers.

Vincent Van Gogh
Vincent Gallo
Vinnie Jones

need i go on?

I love Vincent. Vince too. Fantastic.

Tommy · 25/05/2011 19:40

Vincent is an older man's name IMO
Don't like it I'm afraid

DuchessofKirkcaldy · 25/05/2011 19:36

I have an Uncle called Vincent...He's a lovely man.
Positive connotations for me.

WowOoo · 25/05/2011 18:27

I used to know someone called Vincent. He didn't like Vinnie, but we called
him Vin.
He was far from thuggish. I think it's a lovely name.

Also love Victor. Prefer that actually to Vincent.

JamieAgain · 25/05/2011 18:25

It's one of those names (Vinnie), like Sonny which is self-consciously cute for a little boy, but not sure it stands the test of time. Vincent is a slimy name

What about Victor/Vic?

Oakmaiden · 25/05/2011 17:39

My best friend when I was a teenager was called Vincent. I love the name.

I like it a lot, Vinnie too, but not keen on Vince.

rachel234 · 24/05/2011 21:06

I like Vincent very much. But I also really dislike Vinnie...

peeriebear · 24/05/2011 20:45

I know a Vincent who was teased about his name at school so much he changed it when he was around 15. However with the slew of variable names in schools today I doubt that would happen again :) Definitely not Vinny as a nn though, it conjures up images of pompadours and switchblades.

Horrid, horrid, horrid.

Any variation of Vince/Vincent/Vinnie.

shoobidoo · 23/05/2011 18:55

I like Vincent, nickname Vince. Not keen on Vinnie either.

LetThereBeRock · 23/05/2011 17:56

Vincent is ok,but Vinnie is horrid, and it sounds like a Mafia member.

Mousesmummy · 23/05/2011 17:55

Makes me think of the song "starry starry night, paint your pictures blue and grey . . . "
I married a Vincent in a previous life Smile who turned out to be a NUTTER but it is a lovely underused name IMO - not so keen on Vinnie
