We used the only name we both agreed on for DS which is Xander (not to everyones taste I know but we love it! I'm absolutely stuck as was convinced this one would be a girl and had those names sorted. I've got a few months in hand but need the time to bring DH round.
Names that I like that have all been vetoed
Max
Zachary
Isaac
Barnaby
Asa
Our surname begins with a C and is only one syllable so a 2 syllable name is preferable I think.
Any ideas?
We did like Finn/Finlay last time but too many about now, 4 at nursery in the toddler room!
Got to pop out now but will check back in a bit for inspiration.

I'm really liking Isa but not sure if I can use it in it's own right. Isaac is awful with our surname and Isiah too biblical, anything else it could be short for?

Oh and heard a nice name yesterday - Ivo

Think Xander & Xavier too similar

captainbarnacle · 20/05/2011 09:01

My Nathaniel has never been known as Nathan - he's in reception now. I call him Nathaniel and sometimes refer to him as Nat. Nathan was quickly squashed by me with anyone who tried that :)

shufflebum · 19/05/2011 22:31

Xander is more popular than I thought on MN Smile
All of those vetoed too, I like Nathaniel, not keen on Nathan though. Quinn is good too but not great with the C surname

I have a Xander :) And his big brother is Nathaniel. And our surname begins with C too! In 3 months they'll be another boy so am also in the same boat. Good luck!

thisisyesterday · 19/05/2011 21:48

oooh I have an Asa, and had Xander on my list too :-D

I love Xavier, but that might be a bit too similar to Xander?

other names I like are:

Gabriel
Linus
Tobias
Lucien
Arlo
Otto
Nico
Noam
Beau

shufflebum · 19/05/2011 21:45

DH is rubbish he doesn't like any of them Sad
Xavier is my option if I give birth in France which is possible as we are cutting our holiday dates a bit fine considering DS was a month early!
Is Dashiell pn Dash-she-ell or more like D'shiel?

squeak2392 · 19/05/2011 20:27

Don't know if I can do this but this is from Wikipedia:

Asa (/'ay-sah/) - derived from the Hebrew language, as the name appears in the Old Testament to designate the third King of Judah, who reigned for forty years. It became a popular name because of the influence of the Puritans in the 17th century. Also means healer and/or physician, Ase Male
Asa (pronounced 'asha') - a Nigerian name with the meaning hawk, or little hawk.
Åsa - Swedish name in reference to Æsir
Asa - Japanese name with the original meaning 'morning'. Unisex

Also a Hindu male name.

Of the names mentioned here I like Hugo, Barnaby or Gabriel for Xander.

Cattleprod · 19/05/2011 15:04

The only Asa I've ever known was male.

Theodore, shortened to Theo or Ted?

Peachy · 19/05/2011 14:37

Not Isaac- have no idea what surname is but for example say Isaac Cox really quickly.....

Sebastian is lovely but am biased Wink, we shorten to Baz ut mainly as his brother can't say the whole name. Arlo is nice, no Barbaby babies here but names are incredibly regional IME.

Isaiah is Isaac is a set fave?

Asher is nice.

Loving Dashiell.

We have 4 boys; names get very hard don't they? Names you are not cewrtain of can grow on you though; DH selected Stirling for one of ours (I got to name ds4) and I was not keen but love it now.

flopsy1974 · 19/05/2011 14:32

Love Isaac from your list.

COCKadoodledooo · 19/05/2011 14:26

I wouldn't have a Zachary with a Xander (presuming you pronounce it as 'Zander' and not the Ex-ander' I heard once Hmm) .

I knew a Xander when I was younger (was actually Alexander but he switched in his teenage years), his brother was Asher. Means happy in Hebrew.

minimoonumbertwo · 19/05/2011 14:22

Milo
Sebastian
Remy
Arlo
Wilfred
Bruno

But Barnaby is so lovely - imagine a little baby Barnaby, awwwwwww cutie!

poppydaisy · 19/05/2011 14:19

I think the girls name in Sweden is spelt Ã…sa.

shufflebum · 19/05/2011 14:12

ooh couldn't resist a quick peek before I left!
I thought Asa was a boys name, well scrub that then! Blush
Whipme how do you pronounce Xerxes? Grin
Sorry not keen on Boris or Hugo.
I agree about the C sound with Isaac I just really like it so keep ignoring it!
Right really am going out now

poppydaisy · 19/05/2011 14:10

I'd avoid a name with another x, so wouldn't combine Xander and Max - too many x's imo. I also agree with WhipMe that Isaac C or Zac C isn't the best combo.

I think Xander and Barney sound good, or Xander and Quentin, both 2 syllable names that are similar in style to Xander imo.

WhipMeIndiana · 19/05/2011 14:06

Xander and Hugo

WhipMeIndiana · 19/05/2011 14:06

or Hugo

Boris and Hugo are lovely

WhipMeIndiana · 19/05/2011 14:06

oooooh....
howabout

Boris?

WhipMeIndiana · 19/05/2011 14:05

wouldn't have Isaac with a C--- surname too 'CCCCC-y' in the middle
