So long Lola and Alfie...Welcome???

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Noticed Jean gets a mention a few times here - am feeling a bit trendy now. Our DD (6 months) has Jean for a middle name. I'm not a trendsetter though - she is named after my much loved Granny.

A sudden rise in Shem? Really? I love it, but have never, ever met one.
I will be gutted if AMos is suddenly popular!

Teachermumof3 · 17/05/2011 22:19

Lots of girls called Ava, Emily, Imogen, Florence, Maisie, Freya, Skye, Edie, Poppy, Lily, Taylor, Lola, Beatrice, Darcy, Phoebe, Lucy, Sophie.

Boys-Freddy, Charlie, Alfie, Harrison, Toby, Joseph, Sam, Jake, Harry, Oscar, Oliver, Zack.

It's very hard to find something you like that nobody else has used!

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 17/05/2011 22:18

Where has 'Elodie' come from? Not a name I've ever heard except that I knew some people who had an Elodie in the 80s, but that was in France.

gleechie · 17/05/2011 22:09

SocialButterfly · 17/05/2011 21:58

DD1 is Ava which was not that common until bloody Mylene Klass used it for her daughter!

DD2 is Elsa and I dont know anyone else with that name.

Neither of them ever find anything with their name on in the shops!

Recently I have seen: Matilta, Tullulaha, Woody, Isis, Isabella (loads of them), Sophie, Emily, Archie, Aiden, Violet, Scarlett, Saphire, Ebony

kizzyboo5 · 17/05/2011 21:52

Forgot to say - feeling quite smug that neither DD or DS's names have been mentioned (and doubt they will!), but am getting slightly nervous that our name for DC3 might suddenly appear. We liked Isaac for DS and suddenly it's taken off. Names, eh? Maybe we ought to go for 'Like' like the Israeli family mentioned on the BBC news website ;)

kizzyboo5 · 17/05/2011 21:45

Lots of Clementine's around Oxfordshire and just so many Sophias and Isabellas. I have several friends who have had Evas and Imogens and know of a number of Dorothys.

olddeuteronomy · 17/05/2011 21:39

My predictions for names that are on the increase/ will be soon are:

Florence (already), Eliza, Ada, Iris, Violet, Agnes, Agatha, Thea (met a couple recently)
For boys agree old testament names - my main prediction is for Ezra (because I like it and seem to have a talent for liking names that suddenly everyone else likes too!)

Valinor · 17/05/2011 21:24

In the north west every other baby seems to be called Evie, Eva, Edward, James, Grace, Isabella, Zack/Zac/Zachary/Isaac.

However, I'm hearing of quite a few baby Saskias born recently too.

DD is Clementine.....We chose it because we like it, not because it's different but I do hope it's not the next big thing. It certainly isn't up north.

ivykaty44 Not sure about 1981, but I was in hospital with pre-eclampsia awaiting the birth of DS1 when Diana died in 1997. There were MANY baby girls born that month with Diana as a middle name Smile. In that particular hospital anyway.

UrsulaBuffay · 17/05/2011 20:47

I didn't think this thread was about what's popular now, or 5 years ago, but what's up & coming somehow 'next'?

Latest names of babies I know are Christopher, Stanley, Edward, Tara, Amy, Iris, Imogen, Lila And Elouise.

dementedma · 17/05/2011 20:25

Erin quite popular here in Scotland!

wheresmytractor · 17/05/2011 20:22

Yey! not seen erin yet, fingers crossed it won't get too popular!

So far this year i know of a violet, martha, Sophia and a stanley.

chickling · 17/05/2011 20:12

I've met too many Reubens and Finlays and lots of Amelias and Abigails. There was a Kai when I was in hospital too. I definitely expect Finlay to be on a popular list for 2011.

ivykaty44 · 17/05/2011 20:00

where there many Dianas in 1981?

Mum2be79 · 17/05/2011 19:48

My husband wants a 'progressive' name?!? (whatever one of those are!) When I quizzed him, he said our little peanut is going to be a doctor, Vet, Lawyer or Chemical Engineer (he's one!). I had to point out to him that we can't dictate what our little peanut is going to be. He's insisting on:
William for a boy and Charlotte, Elizabeth or Rebecca for a girl because 'Dr' goes with those names and our surname!?!

As a teacher the popular names where I teach five years ago were (I teach Y1):
Noah, Tyler, Taylor, Kai, Kian, Jensen
Lily, Milly, Evie, Poppy (sooo popular!), Ruby, Phoebe

Our new reception intake have got some weirs and wonderful names. They include an Anya and Trinity (actually lovely girls. I taught two of three of their older brothers). I thought one was called Ernie until I realised it was Emie.

Leapoffaith · 17/05/2011 19:43

Oh and surely Kate/ Catherine and, as earlier posters suggest, Pippa will be back with a vengeance.

Leapoffaith · 17/05/2011 19:40

Zillions of Joshuas around here in the last year...

Talking about our mums' era names coming back, I loved Linda for a girl when I was pg last year but DH vetoed. And we had a boy anyway (whose name has been mentioned twice here, but I really hope doesn't become too popular).

wildpoppy · 17/05/2011 19:35

I was planning on calling next child Clementine if girl and Leo if boy. Bugger

ivykaty44 · 17/05/2011 19:27
