You are all scaring me to death. I love all the names you keep listing and do not want the next one to have a popular, 4 kids in the same class turn round when it is called, name.

I did snort at shoutyhamster Grin

Definitely Esme - met another one today.

I predicted Olive to DH at the weekend. We almost called DD this last year but she looked more like the other name on our list. But since then David Tennant has used it, and as everyone loves him I reckon it could start to get more popular.

I think Sidney and Stanley are both on the rise, and Arthur too.

Otherwise, James might (if possible) get even more popular - 80% of boys that have been born to friends in the last year have been called James which seems even more popular than usual!

MerryMarigold · 17/05/2011 14:44

Huckleberry must have been prompted by all the 'Finns' around at the moment Wink

MerryMarigold · 17/05/2011 14:41

Girls - Isla
Boys - Jude

adamschic · 17/05/2011 14:32

Oliver has been popular round here for years, all shortened to Ollie.

I quite like Clementine shortened to 'Clemmie'. Doubt I would dare use it though.

hellojude · 17/05/2011 14:29

Cattleprod: Grin

I was in the supermarket this morning at heard a mother calling for her boys...Huckleberry Confused Confused and Cosimo!

That's the 3 Huckleberry I've heard of within the last year...!

Praying Tessa doesn't take off the way Eva/Evie/Eve did - Surely I cannot be so unlucky as to have that happen a second time :(

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 17/05/2011 14:19

'Hello, I'm a second wave Declan and this (gestures) is my sister - an Ella analogue'

Okay, that made me snort with laughter.

dementedma · 17/05/2011 14:15

I wanted Laurence for DS, but DH didn't like it Sad

goodness, my sister and I must have been ahead of our times as our 4 eldest between us are Rosie, Ellie, Beatrice and Ralph and they are all 17 and over!!
Met a Leo, Flora and Toby at an event last week but round here generally we have horrible things like Cody, Brody, Paige, Harris, Kenzie, Keeley etc
and still a lot of Declan, Kieran, Scott, Cameron, Fraser,Kirsty, Kirsten

ShoutyHamster · 17/05/2011 14:10

Grin these poor poor children on whom we speculate.

'Hello, I'm a second wave Declan and this (gestures) is my sister - an Ella analogue'.

I know of a couple of babies called Cleo born this year - I like this as a nn for Clementine which seems popular, according to this thread.

I have a Ted, born last year. Friend has a Ruby, born around the same time. We've spent the past year doing baby classes together - never encountered another Ruby (despite it being supposedly number 2 most popular name) but encountered about 5 Teds. I also have an Arthur so am feeling very populist after this thread! Perhaps I should reveal the other names on my list seeing as we seem in tune with current trends...

Boys:
Hector
Wilbur
Wilfred
Percy
Rex
Ernest
Frank
Laurie
Hunter

Girls:
Flora
Violet
Decca
Clover
Edie
Nina
Betty
Betsy
Esme
Molly
Martha
Maude
Clementine
Mirabelle
Peggy
Iris
Pearl
Agatha
Dot/Dolly/Dorothy
Margot

Isla and Harper for girls - a few about and spreading.

Zac for boys - blimmin' everywhere.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 17/05/2011 14:03

It was the most popular boys name of 2010, Ems.

I've read somewhere that when a name becomes very popular, you see a spike in names that are close in spelling/sound. So if Dylan spikes, you see a secondary wave of Declans from people who are trying to do the same thing, but differently.

For that reason, I'm predicting a rise in Isolde and Isla for Isobel, more obscure flower names generally for Rose and Lily, and a bunch of Ella analogues.

Not sure about boys but the principle is the same.

tammytoby · 17/05/2011 14:01

Wasn't Oliver THE most popular boys name last year?

I think Arthur, Wilfred, Quentin and Reuben will become more popular for boys and Rose, Mabel and Clementine for the girls.

HotchpotchHoney · 17/05/2011 14:00

Ava for a girl, so overused at the moment, i know of 2 Ava's born in the last couple of days! Time to stop using those names so frequently, Ava, Eva, Evie, Ellie, Lily etc

Boys then Ethan again is very popular, Harry and Jack still way up there and Alfie.

Two of my children have what i would call popular names but not a single other one in thier classes at school. but the classes both have an Ava, 2 Grace's, Jack (ds2's class has 4 Jacks in one class of 18 children!!) Evies, Freya's, Joseph's.

Ems07 · 17/05/2011 13:56

I called my little boy oliver last year and everywhere I go there is an Oliver, still love it, but seems very popular

pranma · 17/05/2011 13:53

Only baby in my family in last 2 years is Imogen Rose

NanaNina · 17/05/2011 13:52

There are 2 baby Arthurs who are close neighbours. I just think of a bald headed fat old bloke. As for Agatha - I too think it's the ugliest name ever. I suppose trends will come and go but agree the old names are coming back. My friend has recently had a granchild Florence May and I agree with whoever said Ellie and Lily - the schools are going to be full of them. All my grandchildren have lovely names (of course!)

A lot of names on here have been popular for a long time - eg all the Wilfs and Alfies, also Isobel/la, Imogen, Florence,Esme etc - all names we were considering a few years ago (the girls, not the boys - I am not keen on the "arch" boys names and always favoured the more traditional but some might say boring Williams and Thomas's). There again, I might just be a little ahead of the game and tend to think things are popular because I have heard of a few when in fact it's only when the trickle becomes a flood that it's really popular. A la Ruby, Daisy, Poppy and Evie (all nice names but isn't it time to stop now?)

I agree with whoever said Jean.

Edmundo · 17/05/2011 13:47

Felix, Rufus, Wilfred (I know 2 new babies called Wilfred), Arthur, Albert, Stanley, Sidney, Jude, Theodore, Reuben, Elijah

Clementine, Beatrice, Florence, Isla, Imogen, Eliza, Beatrice, Esme (this is massively on the rise), Mabel, Agnes, Iris, Ivy

Mitzimaybe · 17/05/2011 13:45

My granny was called Ethel. Do you think that's due a comeback?

Only babies in my friends/family (both girls) so far this year are Eve and Evie.

tattycoram · 17/05/2011 13:39

I know two baby Wilfs, three Felixes and two Zoes.
