What would YOU like to be called...?

typsical · 16/05/2011 20:01

Is there a name that you wish your parents had called you instead of your actual name...? Would you like to be something a bit more unusual, more ordinary...?

DH wishes he was called 'River'.

Think I'd quite like to be 'Nell'.

Fairy or Tina! Grin

I like my name very much. It is Rebekah. It suits me.

bambiandthumper · 17/05/2011 12:15

I think i'd be a good Eliza, but i'd love to be a Pandora!

MsChanandlerBong · 17/05/2011 11:37

I have always wanted a name with a good nn (my name is quite common and doesn't have any easy nn's). When I was younger I was particulary keen on nn's that were boys names - eg Charlotte/Charlie, Antonia/Toni, etc

Although I'm not in love with my name, as an adult I do really appreciate that it is the kind of chameleon name that fits with any situation I find myself in (from drinking in a working mens club to having a meeting at the Foreign Office IYSWIM).

aStarInStrangeways · 17/05/2011 09:19

When I was 5 I desperately wanted to be called Fairy or Tina Grin Thank goodness no one listened as I love my name now and wouldn't want to be anything else. Especially not Fairy or Tina.

BalloonSlayer · 17/05/2011 09:15

When I was a little girl I LONGED to be called Julie or Karen. I thought they were the most beautiful names ever.

Now I think I would like to be a Kate or a Zoe.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/05/2011 09:12

I'd like to be Betty or Maggie. I'm not. Alternatively, Peggy, Ruth, Nell, Lucy or Aurelia.

Autumn.

I really don't like my name or the shortened names for it either. I tended to be called M now which i prefer.

jordannarikki · 17/05/2011 08:52

Lions, I'm a Beth Smile

makemineapinot · 17/05/2011 00:20

getorf - my dd is a Kirsty Sad hope sh liikes it!! never liked my name - would love to have been a Kate/Katie but agree with chaos above. I wanted dd to be Eilidh but XH wouldn't allow it cos he couldn't be bothered to learn to spell it! In the 80s I wanted to be called Jackie!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 17/05/2011 00:11

Although I'm really not keen on mine, I can't imagine not being me.

So, I'll stick with my unloved name.

Sad
messymammy · 17/05/2011 00:11

I wish I were a Laura,I'm not... :(
dd1 is Eve and dd2 is Sarah :) dp vetoed laura, I vetoed Brigid.

Checkmate · 17/05/2011 00:10

My mother wanted to call me Clara or Verity, and I would much rather be either of these than the boring compromise name they found instead.

But it could have been worse - dad wanted to call me Stephanie or Dawn, and I'm much more suited to the boring compromise name than either of those!

GetOrfMoiCase · 17/05/2011 00:08

I'm called Kirsty and I hate my name.

I was nearly called Regan, I was born when the Exorcist came out Grin. Think they saw I had potential.

I would like to be called something elegant like Minerva or Cressida.

Tigerbomb · 17/05/2011 00:05

I wanted the name Heidi when I was at school Shock

I hated my real name and haven't used it since I was a teenager. I chose a different name instead and it isn't Heidi Smile.

When I got married I was so pleased that the registrar called me by my chosen name until we got to the legal bit when she had to use my real name
It was quite funny to see the confusion on peoples faces (including my DH) as only my parents and brother knew.

manicinsomniac · 16/05/2011 23:55

I'm a Rebecca and, although I like it, I don't like Becky, Bex or Becca which is all I ever get called, except at work. So I end up liking my theoretical name but not the end result. Very few Rebeccas get to stay Rebecca.

I'd like to be Hannah, Amy, Isabella, Francesca, Jessica or Abigail

LionsnTigersnBears · 16/05/2011 23:25

Beth. My mn is Elizabeth and I always wished I could be called it. But I felt silly asking people to call me a different name and now I think its too late. Sad because names mean a lot to me for some reason. My sister used to call me Abby and I loved that too. Ah well.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 16/05/2011 23:00

Louisa

typsical · 16/05/2011 22:59

Oooh would quite like to be a Kate too!

Definitely should call a child something you'd like to be called me thinks! DS's middle name is River, chosen by DH. However, he vetoes Nell for a future girl! Hmph.

Thinking I'd also quite like to be a Rose or a Maeve...

Artemis, absolutely love itSmile

Linnet · 16/05/2011 22:36

There are too many to choose from. Some days I think I'd like to be called Felicity or Imogen, then I think Cordelia is really nice or maybe Lucy. Then I think a traditional family name might be better like Isabella or Eliza, or Alice, there are loads of these in my family tree and I really like them but ironically did not even consider them for either of my dd's.

I think I'd better just stick to my own name, which is fairly boring and there were 5 of us at my school, in my year but hey I can live with that.

TabithaTwitchet · 16/05/2011 20:40

No, I can't think of a name I'd prefer to my own, I really like it!

LifeOfKate · 16/05/2011 20:38

I'm a Kate and I honestly wouldn't pick another name. Am slightly irritated that I am called it actually, as we are currently (unsuccessfully) trying to find a name for DC2 and Kate would be a good option!

tummytickler · 16/05/2011 20:35

I always wished I was called Iris so I called my 10 year old dd Iris. I still love it.
My parents other names for me were Hazel or Ruby. I am gutted I was neither of these as they are both far nicer than my name. I would love to be an adult Ruby (but would never use it for a child now)

kickingking · 16/05/2011 20:34

All the above names are on my list for if I ever have DD Smile I go by the rule of calling a child what you would like to be called yourself!
