What would YOU like to be called...?

Is there a name that you wish your parents had called you instead of your actual name...? Would you like to be something a bit more unusual, more ordinary...?

DH wishes he was called 'River'.

Think I'd quite like to be 'Nell'.

:)

I would like a name such as Jane or Sarah where it can't be shortened to numerous names!!! It is so annoying!

UrsulaBuffay · 21/05/2011 08:18

I would be happy as a Kate or maybe an Anna. I just realised that I could have made an Annie out of my name, but it is far too late for that. I would have been happier as one, but it was hard enough shortening it at all as people think you're trying to 'be something you're not'.

monkeyslut · 21/05/2011 08:02

My name is bleh...

Much prefer if I were a Coraline instead.

weepootle · 20/05/2011 22:22

I've always hated my name (it's one of the ones on Fimbo's wanted to be list!). As far back as I can remember, I've wanted to be Louisa. I still do, but would be equally happy with Kate.

chrisonabike · 20/05/2011 08:10

I like my name, but I've always wanted a boy's name instead. James, or Johnny or something. Not Derek. Hence why I'm Chris on here Grin

BalloonSlayer · 20/05/2011 08:05

jennypenney I love the name Jennifer, though not for me as it wouldn't suit me.

I sometimes find myself thinking about the name, as if I was destined to have a DD called Jennifer. But my DD is called something else, and I don't think we even discussed the name Jennifer. Confused

wheniwishuponastar · 19/05/2011 12:19

the only name id like to be called is Hannah. (its not my name)

NormanTheForeman · 19/05/2011 12:14

Well, I think Norman quite suits me really....

But I asked SoMuchToBits. She is a Heather, which she hates. She would like to be Isabel or Juliet or Miranda.

jennypenney · 19/05/2011 12:10

I'd like to be Sam or Alex. My name is Jennifer which I don't love and have never been called that. I was Jenny when I was little and at school and then I got fed up of that and shortened it to Jen at uni which I've been ever since.

Fimbo · 19/05/2011 09:43

When I was a child my own name was not common at all, it is now thanks to the soaps and probably a bit meh. I longed to be either Debbie, Julie, Mandy, Karen, Gillian or Lorraine.

Nowadays I would like to be Suzy. Just Suzy not Suzanne or Susan.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 18/05/2011 22:53

Bambiandthumper show us yer box... Grin

I have always, since birth, been called my middle name. Single sylable, really boring. My first name is Catherine. I love it. I was named for Cathy from Wuthering Heights. I think its lovely, and has some lovely NN. Ive always wanted to be a Cat!
I called DD Catherine instead. She was always Catey, but is growing up now and needs a new derivative.

startail · 18/05/2011 22:45

Elizabeth shortened to Beth, because I always liked Beth, but not the local Welsh full form of Bethan.
I guess today I'd have to settle for Bethany.

SilkStalkings · 18/05/2011 22:27

Ooh something flowy and poetic like Serena, Seraphina or Persephone. Something that conjures up Post-Raphaelite paintings and a bit of magic.

I wanted to be Natasha when I was little. I just thought it was wonderful. Now I'm glad I'm not. And someone has mentioned my actual name as something they'd like which is nice.
I like my name, I loved it's unusualness when I was younger (actually quite common now!). And I like that the actual name and the nn have totally different feels so I can be "name" at work and feel automatically professional and "nn" to everyone else.

Bert2e · 18/05/2011 10:07

My name is typical 70's - I wish I had a more classic name like Charlotte or Hannah or Anna or something more unusual like Hebe or Xanthe!

UrsulaBuffay · 18/05/2011 10:01

Almost anything other than my name, which has been described as the female equivalent of 'Darren' Hmm and my parents couldn't even be arsed to give me a middle name.

CheerfulYank · 18/05/2011 05:59

Aurelia is beautiful

Annie would suit me

I'm a Megan, called Meg. Don't mind :)

BeattieBow · 18/05/2011 05:44

When I was a child I wanted to change my name to Sarah.

I don't mind my name now

nooka · 18/05/2011 05:13

I don't think I've ever wanted a different name, but when I was a teen I did long for a nick name. I think that was more about wanting to be popular (popular kids having nns in my mind).

lljkk · 18/05/2011 05:02

I did change my name (long story why parents let me). From one of the "timeless classics" to something that sounds completly dated now (bit like Sharon or Tracy). But I'd never change back.

HopingForAZoo · 18/05/2011 04:44

If I wanted to be anything else it would be Anastasia.

HopingForAZoo · 18/05/2011 04:43

I have always loved my name and never wanted to be anything else. Although I did go through about 1 year when I was nine wanting to spell it Aimee instead of Amy.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 17/05/2011 14:10

Elizabeth, like others, for its potentials.

As a young girl I thought Lucinda was the most beautiful name in the entire world ever. It's probably due for a comeback, now.

oohlaalaa · 17/05/2011 14:05

I'm a Jane, and I love my name. My cousin is Kate, and she loves her name. We had this discussion one day, how we both like our short names as adults, although as youngsters we'd have prefered frilly names.
