from previous thread we now accept cecily and cecilia are 2 independent stand alone names .

but which to go for oh prefers one i prefer the other and can't see the point of putting cecilia on bc if we're not going to use it and just going to call her cecily any way.problem is dh likes cecilia more because it feels more elaborate , i prefer cecily because it is less affected elaborate . dh dislikes cecily because it is too gentle , i dislike cecilia because it's not sweet gentle enough. so while we agree on the pros and cons of each name we are divided on how we feel about each name if that makes sense .

which do you prefer and why . we have agreed that the mumsnet verdict will be final as we could both accept live with either .

I would say that Ceclilia is closer to "silly" than Cecily is....Cec-silly-ah.

I always have the Simon and Garfunkel song running through my head for Cecilia, so prefer Cecily.

What about Celia? that's nice to imo.

MrsEricBana · 16/05/2011 11:17

I do agree that Cecilia can sound a little bit affected but for me Cecily, while very lovely, is too weak and near to sissy/silly. So on that basis I'd say Cecilia but I do like them both (so no help at all!)

I prefer Ceciliy...it reminds me of Cecy in What Katy Did.

AngryGnome · 16/05/2011 10:47

Cecily all the way!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/05/2011 10:43

Cecily, very Jane Austen :)

Another vote for Cecilia - a beautiful, strong name.

Cecily is feeble and sickly. Cecilia is strong, independent and clever.

Cecilia

What middle name have you chosen (if any?). This may decide which one works the best. For instance if the mn begins with 'A' then I would say go for Cecily.

That aside I think I prefer Cecilia (but only just). I may change my mind if I knew the mn.

Cecily

fivegomadindorset · 16/05/2011 09:43

Cecilia, Cecily just reminds me too much of The Importance of Being Ernest, and she was so irritating. I also agree with your DH it is to gentle.
