What do you think? I'm a bit of a romantic and love Tennyson's Maud...

I prefer Maeve.

Lilyloo · 23/05/2011 22:05

Whowho was going to say the same , i incidentally love the name.
The mile for Maude was when i first came to mumsnet. A very strong name for what i imagine a little strong character, lovely.

mynameisplonker · 23/05/2011 22:04

No.

whackamole · 23/05/2011 22:01

Vile.

Sorry.

shoobidoo · 23/05/2011 22:00

I don't like the sound of it at all, I'm afraid.

kimlek · 23/05/2011 19:10

My 1st daughter's middle name is Maude (after my Nanna). Whilst I love it I do think it is quite hard sounding. I paired it with a prettier first name that I've loved since I was 13!! Luckily my hubby had no objections. The 2nd DD was named after his g'ma!

lisianthus · 12/05/2011 21:05

It's gorgeous. I like both, but prefer Maud.

MercurySoccer · 12/05/2011 21:00

It's drippy.

shouldnotbehere · 12/05/2011 17:59

Dislike. Sorry.

flopsy1974 · 12/05/2011 14:35

Not keen I'm afraid.

tammytoby · 12/05/2011 12:23

I really dislike it. It sounds harsh, unfriendly and unfeminine to my ears. It also doesn't sound nice in other languages (other than French).

cumbria81 · 12/05/2011 10:59

it's fucking awful. Sorry.

Hedwig3 · 12/05/2011 10:13

Tastic Grin

birdofthenorth · 12/05/2011 00:40

Love it. No huge spelling preference, but Maude probably

pacinofan · 11/05/2011 22:22

Maude is the name I hovered about giving dd2 as a middle name - dh wasn't sure and at last minute chose something else. Still love it today, and still wonder about adding it 5 years on! Beautiful name.

I like Maude. DD goes to school with a lovely one.
I prefer it with the 'e'.

WhoWhoWhoWho · 11/05/2011 17:29

the name Maude will ring big emotional bells for a lot of MNers on here - (search Mile for Maude), for me the name will always remind me of the MNer's Maude.

I think it's a nice name but I do like all the 'old lady' type names, some like em some don't. Smile

TheFantasticFixit · 11/05/2011 17:26

I LOVE Maud, and have done for years. So much so that I named my cat that. And now can't name my baby Maud as a result

TabithaTwitchet · 11/05/2011 17:22

I really don't like the sound of it. It conjures up images of fat dumpiness for me.
I usually test names by thinking "would I like to be called X?" And I would hate to be called Maude.

winkle2 · 11/05/2011 17:09

Prob the worst name ever. It sounds like mort/ morgue ie death

To me it conjures a weedy tenor singing 'Come into the gaaaarden etc', but I know a darling Maud actually.

CandiceMariePratt · 11/05/2011 15:29

DD4 was very nearly Maude, love it
