So continuing in the American vein, what about Chord - as in Chord Overstreet (plays Sam, the blonde, on Glee).

Arpeggio might work, if you are really struck with Chord...

ZZZenAgain · 23/05/2011 13:08

Chord?

doesn't grab me personally

SpringDaffodils · 23/05/2011 13:07

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 17:06

"The noun quim was a Victorian-era word that was used specifically to refer to the fluids produced by the vagina, specifically during orgasm. In modern usage it is primarily heard in British slang and is a derogatory or vulgar term for the vagina itself. The word is rarely used today in English slang but used in Wales as an insult rather than the above meaning. The word may be related to Welsh 'cwm' meaning 'hollow' or 'valley'"

12 years of state education, 5yrs of university and this is the shit I remember.

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 16:59

i am dreading finding out what Quim means.

Quinn sounds like Quince which i don't mind.

Pinkjenny · 04/05/2011 16:54

I literally have NO idea what a quim is. So that's not really a factor for me.

Eglu · 04/05/2011 16:51

I quite like Velvet for a girl. I love Quinn too, tried to convince DH that our DD due in July could be that, but he's having none of it.

Chord is wierd though.

ShowOfHands · 04/05/2011 16:51

No no no no no no. Too close to quim for comfort.

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 16:45

Oh yeah i quite like Quinn too. I wasn't sure at first but it has grown on me.

Pinkjenny · 04/05/2011 16:42

Oh noooo. I always think his name is a bit ridiculous. I like Quinn though

ShowOfHands · 04/05/2011 16:41

In the same way that Ben Dover is a bit porn?

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 16:40

i guess they are a bit porn.

OP posts:
wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 16:39

Its certainly unusual. I'm wondering how his parents came up with it. It can't just be a stage name.

ShowOfHands · 04/05/2011 16:39

For a girl you may use Cordelia and shorten to Cordy. Otherwise, absolutely not.

And yes you can call a child Lace or Velvet or Silk if her surname's Lavender and she's headed for a career in adult entertainment.

Emelene · 04/05/2011 16:35

Personally I really dislike it. When I saw Sam's real name was Chord I was like Confused!

DELHI · 04/05/2011 12:57

no, really weird and doesn't look nice on the page. It's just a random word.

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 12:17

(for girls)

OP posts:
wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 12:16

ok - what about other haberdashery items:

Ribbon
Velvet
Silk
Lace
Cotton

OP posts:
wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 12:14

i quite like it.

OP posts:
MamaLazarou · 04/05/2011 12:11

Chord!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

No.

MrsKwazii · 04/05/2011 10:46

Makes me think umbilical (I know that's cord, but people will think it), or cordouroy trews.

MelinaM · 04/05/2011 10:42

Nooooo, bizarre doesn't quite cover Chord I'm afraid!

Bucharest · 04/05/2011 09:51

It sounds like it would be on Sarah Palin's list. Short, punchy, random.

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 00:13

yeah good point.
