Lux, Huxley and others ending in X

Ok these are my favourite names....
Lux for a girl (heard it in the Virgin Suicides film - yes, I know not a good reference. But also its Latin for light, and my name means light in another language. I also like Tripp, as in Tripp Fontaine, from the Virgin Suicides. But even I realise this isn't a good one.)
Hux or Huxley for a boy
Obviously I couldn't use both.

My husband doesn't like either. The furthest he will go with "X" thing is Max. Which is quite nice. If a little boring.

My grandfather's name was Basil, which is quite cute. But will probably end up as Baz.

I also really like Van (as in Van Hansis - very beautiful American actor - his full name is Evan).

I also like American names in general: Parker, Madison, Cody.

I realise I am probably coming off as having really horrible taste. But thought I'd better get some feedback to either put me off, or at least air the names.

Please don't call you DC 'Van'!

I prefer your more American choices, how about:

Scout
Tatum
Avery
Bailey
Cassidy
Summer
Peyton
Morgan
Dylan

or if you still like 'X's, how about Alexa, Xenia or Xanthe?

Great thanks I'll look it up.

Lux is the main girly on telly show called 'Life Unexpected'. Two seasons in still can't adapt to the name!

wheniwishuponastar · 10/05/2011 11:19

yes good idea!

It could be short for any of the Lucy type names:
Lucy
Lucia
Luciana
Lucienne
Lucinda

wheniwishuponastar · 10/05/2011 11:01

i like Maximus. that's my favourite long version.
glad you like Lux - can't think what the long version would be.

Has anyone mentioned Xavier - that's a great name
I love Maximillian (or even Maxwell or Maximus) with the nn Max

Roxanne is fabulous for a girl
I don't think Lux is terrible, it has a nice meaning, but it looks a little bit 'unfinished' - maybe too short?
Xanthe is nice
I like Beatrix

i can't be put off by bad rhymes, i'm afraid! But i am on guard for bad initials. (both me and my hub and his sister and his mum all have horrible initials unfortunately!)

I was thinking "Lux sucks" but yes, it rhymes with f**ks too. Lots of playground potential, if that bothers you.

Uxue is nice though!

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 13:00

ush-shu-way. that could work.

OP posts:
belgo · 04/05/2011 12:58

ush-shu-way or something like that.

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 12:57

How do you pronouce Uxue?

Lux: rhymes with F**ks? is that what you mean?

OP posts:
WildhoodChunder · 04/05/2011 12:54

Lux = soap. I always think of what names rhyme with too...

belgo · 04/05/2011 12:53

Uxue. Girl's name, very pretty.

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 12:52

Finally someone likes Lux!

telsa · 04/05/2011 12:47

Xenia is a great X name for a girl. I like Lux.

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 12:33

I think Saxon means of German origin. My hub is Jewish so wouldnt be up for that i don't think. shame as its a nice name.

OP posts:
wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 12:10

I don't really like long first names, sorry! (me and my hub both have short first names and long surnames) Saxon could be nice - but Anglo Saxon? I forget what Saxon actually means.

I think i prefer the spelling of Flox - and like the meaning.

OP posts:
Janoschi · 04/05/2011 11:51

Yes, Phlox is pronounced Flox. It's a very pretty flower and also means flame in Greek.

freesias · 04/05/2011 11:34

for a girl how about
bellatrix nn bella or trixie
margaux

littlemissw · 04/05/2011 11:29

I can't say that I'm keen on Lux for a girl.

How about Saxon for a boy?

wheniwishuponastar · 04/05/2011 10:49

Going back to the American theme - I also like Ferris. Can't believe more people haven't used this. Though what puts me off is it sounds like Ferret.

My hub and I are trying for a baby at the mo. But it takes me a long time to make up my mind!
