Lux, Huxley and others ending in X

Ok these are my favourite names....
Lux for a girl (heard it in the Virgin Suicides film - yes, I know not a good reference. But also its Latin for light, and my name means light in another language. I also like Tripp, as in Tripp Fontaine, from the Virgin Suicides. But even I realise this isn't a good one.)
Hux or Huxley for a boy
Obviously I couldn't use both.

My husband doesn't like either. The furthest he will go with "X" thing is Max. Which is quite nice. If a little boring.

My grandfather's name was Basil, which is quite cute. But will probably end up as Baz.

I also really like Van (as in Van Hansis - very beautiful American actor - his full name is Evan).

I also like American names in general: Parker, Madison, Cody.

I realise I am probably coming off as having really horrible taste. But thought I'd better get some feedback to either put me off, or at least air the names.

smugnitwit · 08/06/2011 14:45

devonsmummy · 07/06/2011 14:48

havent read the whole thread so sorry for any repeats
Ajax
Baxter
Dex
Felix
Jaxon
Lex
Max
Pax
Rex

MackerelOfFact · 07/06/2011 12:12

Tampax
Tippex
Fedex
Retardex
Carex
Andrex
Dulcolax
Pyrex
Kleenex
Durex

All quite sweet.

Seriously though, I think x-ending names all run the risk of sounding a bit like a household product.

Dax = Jadzia Dax = Star Trek.

The only Dax-es I know are dogs. Grin

greenzebra · 04/06/2011 17:41

I know a Dax, its a pretty cool name I think.

I have a Rufus. Saw his name on a tin of cheapo dog food in the 99p shop the other day - the shame!

If we had a girl, she would have been Kitty. True!

Congratulations lockets. I have a Rex too (hence my nickname!). It is a very strong name but mine gets called Rexy too. I love it.

freerangeeggs · 04/06/2011 02:14

I can't believe nobody has mentioned that Lux rhymes with Fux and Sux. The boys at her secondary school most certainly will notice - which is a shame as it's actually a really cool name.

Huxley is awesome, I love it. It makes me think of Aldous.

How about:

For girls... Alix or Alixe (old French form of Alice, used in lots of European royal families)
Beatrix
Phoenix
Margaux
Calyx

For boys... Calix
Lennox
Pollux

All the others I can think of have been mentioned already.

I have a Dex. Most people call him Dexy.

I. Love. It!

I'm not sure whether it's him or his name but people never forget him!

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 03/06/2011 16:17

Rex is the best!

razzlebathbone · 03/06/2011 14:58

Lux is a fabulous name and very cool.

LittleOneMum · 03/06/2011 14:06

whenIwish I'm coming to this too late, I know. But my daughter is called Lux. And it's fab. I called her it because of all these reasons, Virgin Suicides, Lux Interior and Latin for light and it suits her perfectly.

dexifehatz · 11/05/2011 00:30

Wheniwish-Thankyou! He is 5yrs old and named before the TV series! He has thick brown hair and freckles and I believe he will be quite handsome when he grows up-altho' I could be biased on that!Grin

RueLaChesty · 10/05/2011 22:37

well he was a friend of my dads so he looked old, but dark hair/sallow skin but a bit of a dodgy moustache. He was tall with an athletic build and may have been very handsome when younger.

His son who is now 17 is turning into a very handsome boy if that helps? Grin

i really like it, if we ever have a boy we'd go with Lauchlan but Loxley would be a close second choice!

wheniwishuponastar · 10/05/2011 21:23

I really want to see the tv programme Dexter.
Pax would be a girl.

Loxley - Robin Hood! Love it

GypsyWillow · 10/05/2011 20:42

Dexter is such a cute name but so popular the moment following on from the TV show. I know there is no x but if you're going along the American line then maybe Regan or Lincoln? Felix is good

Pax to me is a little too close to pox and makes me think of disease :S
However just found out its also the name of the goddess of peace in Roman mythology. Unsure now if you would be use this for a boy or girl?

wheniwishuponastar · 10/05/2011 20:24

Ooh I like loxley a lot!! What did he look like?

OP posts:
RueLaChesty · 10/05/2011 20:04

what about loxley? I knew a Loxley, thought for ages it was his surname and i asked him one day what his first name was. Yup, it was Loxley.

i really like it but can't remember where its from?

What about Lauchlan?

For a girl Rebecca nn Bex?

wheniwishuponastar · 10/05/2011 18:16
