Help - girl's name needed and baby overdue

The bump is of unknown gender. We have a boy's name but can't decided on a girl. Between us, we've come up with this list - some I prefer, some the other half. What if anything jumps out? Are there other names that we haven't thought of along these lines?

I did wonder if your Ruth, Nancy, and Dorothea were also book related.

I'm really warming to Dorothea actually, and think Thea is great.

Right, very helpful, although obviously a spread of opinions. But it's nice to see so many supporters of each name. Can't please everyone I know, but nothing seems to be completely panned.

No Gilbert involved at all, I can confirm. I don't think DH would go down that route.

Clemency - something I like about it, yes
Cordelia - really like, and LOVED AOGG - Is your boy name Gilbert?? :)
Dulcie - I like it, but if it were very common I think I would go off it, which is not the case with a lot of names! If that makes sense?

Eleanor - LOVE Nell as a nn - vetoed by DH :(
Francesca - like nn Frankie
Harriet - like
Isobel - bored of it, sorry
Kate - love, sod the Wedding, it's gorgeous

Nancy - from Oliver Twist. But I like it
Rowan - Atkinson - unfortunately because I really like the name!
Ruth - A name I irrationally can't stand, SORRY
Sophia - beautiful, my DH's favourite
Thea - gorgeous, one of my faves!!

I have 3 dds and 2 of their names are on your list, they are mostly all lovely, I don't like Edith or Nancy.

Thanks for the opinions. Laurie would be Laurence/Lawrence shortened (wish I liked Nicola as she is clearly the better Marlow twin). Food for thought definitely.

Anna -- lovely, classic
Clemency -- makes me think of the death sentence and applications for clemency
Cordelia -- lovely
Dulcie -- too 1915
Edith -- chic
Eleanor -- lovely but there are lots and lots of Ellies
Francesca -- too frilly
Harriet -- nice
Isobel -- lots and lots of Isobels, Isabelles, Isabellas, Izzies and Bellas around. LOTS.
Kate -- too topical?
Laurie -- makes me think of thousands of American women aged 45 and up
Maria -- ok
Meredith -- sounds larsh to my ears
Nancy -- very nice
Rowan -- lovely
Ruth -- gorgeous
Sophia -- lovely (but popular)
Thea -- a bit wishy washy

The one that stands out for me is Ruth, with Anna, Cordelia, Edith, and Rowan close behind.

If you're bothered about people misspelling it don't go for Laurie. My dd is called something along those lines so is often called/spelt Lawrie, Larry, Lorry. I would call her Lawrence (not only a boys name - see the Antonia Forest books), tell people she is called Lawrence but have Laurie as the nn.

Nancy is great.
I had a good schoolfriend Helen-a so really like that.
Isobel I like but majorly popular round here.

With all due love, respect and admiration kangers, I think you're the only one on the thread thus far that has made that mistake , which suggests that a small minority might be unfamiliar with it, but I think most know it's a name (and a noun).

I know three Clems, two female, one male (all much much older). One is Clemency, one Clementine and one Clement.

Cressida has been vetoed already, and I don't think DH would go for Carenza. I do like Caroline myself, with Carrie for short, but he muttered things about Stephen King.

Clemency is a noun, not a verb! But it's also a name, promise.

Yes, I've read AOGG, but DH liked it on a girl we met.

Bridgit is pretty.

I'm quite pleased (very) by the positive reactions on here to the set. Although it makes choosing still hard!

The boy's name is David, for a family member, and because all the Davids we've ever met have been lovely men.

I like Cordelia, Edith, Meredith and Nancy. Like's a bit lukewarm actually, I like them A LOT.

The only Cordelia I've every come across was Cordy and she was just stunning. And the Meredith I know is Merry.
