Our son is a week old and we still can't decide on his name. I love the name Finn but am wondering whether it would be better to call him Finley or Finlay.

I am also on the verge of wondering whether we should just stick to sensible James instead. So confused and sleep deprived, I just can't make a decision! Please help by letting me know your thoughts! Thanks

Finton has fantastic father ted connotations, I love it. Congrats and good luck x

Congrats! Both Finn and Flynn are lovely - be a devil and give James as the middle name!

Finn is a name in its own right, (not like Tom which is a nn of Thomas). Finn is the Irish version and Finlay the Scottish. Does this make a difference? Is there any Irish/Scottish blood in the family.

If you are worried about the popularity, how about Finton?

Personally I love Finn, (whether it's a shortening or not). Lot's of James' at DDs school.

Just give the beautiful boy a name and be done with it. One less thing to worry about!

Let us know what you decide. Smile

If you love the name Finn then go with it! I think it's too easy to over think when making a name decision. If you love it, it suits him then go with it! I've been thinking about names since Jan, nearly drove myself mad stressing over it! Once I took a more relaxed approach a name just presented itself! I have not heard of any Finns in this area, but Finley/Finlay seems more common. Congrats on the birth of your baby boy!

I like Finn a lot - only know one child with that name. Not as keen on Finley/Finlay, and James is just too too prevalent imo (no offence to any James' or parents of James' at there!)

Congratulations Wine

If you love Finn then that is the name you should go with.

I was also going to suggest Flynn.

Finn is nice, but is also very popular 'trendy' at the mo, if that doesn't bother you then go with it, I'd use Finlay in full.

How about Flynn, which is similar but not so many aboutSmile

James is lovely!
