How do you pronounce Sophia

So - fee- a (emphasis on fee)
So - fy - a

or

Sophie - a (emphasis on So)

The old-fashioned English pronunciation is So-fye-a. At some point the Latin pronunciation came into favour, and the same is true of Maria which used to be Ma-rye-a. (Mariah Carey has made the old prn. of Maria more familiar.) They can be pronounced either way. Certainly So-fye-a is more unusual these days, but it's just fashion.

I too have a Sophia (spelt Sofia) but pronounced as your first example - gorgeous name!

There's also a Sof-ee-a (like the capital of Bulgaria, in both spelling and pronunciation) at DCs school.

I have a Sophia and pronounce her name as per your first example, although my DM and my FIL prounounce it Sophie-a, despite my best attempts to get them to say it properly, which really annoys me! Grin
