freesias, I know of quite a few, but then again the DC's are at a prep in central London (area starts with C, ends in A), so might not be the best representation of England as a whole Blush

Gosh, at the risk of sounding very very snobby I'd say there are an awful lot of middle class, affluent schools represented in this thread.

At the school I teach in now (medium sized independent in the home counties) the most common multiples are:
Frederick, Sebastian, Max, Jack, Christopher, Hugh, William, George, Harry, Hugo, James, Charles, Joseph, Joshua, Thomas, Oliver
Annabelle, Georgina, Georgia, Alice, Grace, Jessica, Isabel/la, Mia, Harriet, Elizabeth, Abigail.

At the last school I taught at (small primary in the North East, 4 years ago) the most common multiples were:
Declan, Dylan, Damon, Callum, Reece,
Chelsea, Kelsey, Holly, Jamie-Lee, Amy

How do you pronounce the name Ruaridh (not sure of spelling)? Is it popular in Scotland? My 3G old has on in his class at nursery and I notice the other day that he thinks he is called "BlueRed"!

The regional breakdown of these would be really interesting too. eg What is popular in Scotland might not be in London.

There are also many many variations of Eleanor, Emily, Ellie in our school and many variations of Beth, Bethany, Elsbeth etc.

There are a few girls called Poppy and a few called Daisy as well.

My dd has one duplicate in her school but they are 5 year groups apart and my ds doesn't have a duplicate but he does have one very similar name but female.

heliumballoons · 30/04/2011 11:03

Interesting thread.

DS was going to be:

Thomas (what he ended up as), Jake, Callum, Conner or Joshua (all of which have appeared here as frequent fliers!)

Of if DD:

Sophia, Charlotte, Bethany (think Bethany is the least common)

In my Early Years (only 16 pupils) I have

3x Jack
also have Lily, Ellie, Millie, Poppy, Ruby, Bradley, Riley. (anyone see a theme Grin)

DS year (59 pupils yr 2)

3x Thomas
2x Sam/ emily/ Katie/ Charlotte.

And friends DD are called Sophie and Olivia (and would have been Thomas is boys)

having said that i really feel for their mother's . you give your daughter a very unusual name over something much more popular , but when you send them to school and there are 2.
just goes to show that no matter how hard you try to find a "unique" name , it's really little more than a game of chance as to how often you'll encounter a name.

freesias · 30/04/2011 09:02

mrsvwoolf i also love the name augusta .it gaining a little popularity would definitely make it more acceptable . i just hope it won't be one of those names that rises from nowhere to the upper reaches of the top 100.

chrisonabike · 30/04/2011 07:54

Evie / Ava / Eve / Eva - loads of these.

purepurple · 30/04/2011 07:33

I work in a nursery and we have multiples of

Ruby
Scarlett
William
Michael
Lexie
Anais
Joshua
Isobelle
Jack
Jake
Megan

RustyBear · 30/04/2011 07:20

The 'Ellie' sound-alikes seem to be the new equivalent of the 'Kylie' variations of 20-odd years ago - in the playgroup DS (now 23) went to out of about 10 girls there was Hayley, Kayleigh, Cayleigh, Keeley, Kylie and Carly.

I work in a junior school - we haven't had any Rubys yet, we have 7 of Jack and James, 5 each of Ben, Emily, George, Mathh ew, Chloe, Oliver and Sam (4 of whom are in the same year)

In one of our year groups there are three Harrys, but it doesn't worry them, in fact they are rather proud of it and have a Harry Club - I overheard them at our Royal Wedding party discussing inviting Prince Harry to join!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 30/04/2011 06:07

Not at this school, but at DDs last school there were many Jessica's, lots of Sophie's and more than a few Thomas'.
DD, despite having the most popular name in the world (Ruby) has only ever been the only one in the school. We are abroad though.

SoMuchToBits · 29/04/2011 23:52

In ds's year (year 5) there are 2 x Alice, Georgia, Bethany, Daniel, Jack, Joshua.

In the school in general, popular names are Harry, Jack, Joshua, Daniel, Matthew, Alex(ander), Ben(jamin), James, Emily, Jessica, Mia, Sophie, Eleanor, Lily, Lucy........
