Husband loves this name...and I quite like it, what do you think of Marnie for a girl?

Thoughts please...

ZOMBIE THREAD

Why on earth bump this old thread? The child will be almost ten years old by now.

Japa · 11/02/2021 23:17

Don’t like it, sorry.
It is too close to moanie (ie whinger)
And Marnie in the Hitchcock film wasn’t a very likeable character and attempted suicide.

cumbria81 · 04/05/2011 15:45

Oh - I just got the "our marnie" thing

thell · 04/05/2011 14:07

love it Smile

chocadoodle · 03/05/2011 23:32

I love it and would use it if DH agreed. He won't though, he thinks "mardy Marnie" but that could be a regional thing.c

HipHopOpotomus · 03/05/2011 22:44

DD is Marnie - we love the name & we get lovely comments about it everywhere. It's not too long, not too weird but a little bit different. When visiting Thailand they did think she was called Money though :)

Apparently in Spanish it means peanut! Not many people know the Kitchcock/Winston Marnie - she was a disturbed character, but doesnt define the name by any means.

MamaLazarou · 02/05/2011 12:07

Marnie is lovely.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 02/05/2011 11:38

Works in a diner. Don't like it, sorry.

tiggyfours · 01/05/2011 13:31

makes me think of marmite sarnie :)

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 29/04/2011 09:57

If you wanted to make it more formal you could always call her Hermione with nn Marnie. I think it is lovely

FanjoForTheMusic · 29/04/2011 09:53

I love it, and if we ever have another girl that will be her name! Congrats Chickens on having fabulous names both in RL and on MN! Grin

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 29/04/2011 08:42

If you go with Marnie, please spell it that way. When people spell it Marney, I get a bit murderous. And I've grown to like my name at this point. Never got away with anything at school, though, because it was instantly recognisable. I was 29 before I met another one.

madmomma · 29/04/2011 07:25

my best friend's baby is Marnie. Love it. Like the book 'when Marnie was there'. She gets 'Marbles' as a nickname from her mum.z

CheshireDing · 29/04/2011 07:16

I like it, I don't know what the "our Marnie" thing means

nooka · 29/04/2011 06:12

Makes me think of 'When Marnie was there', where I have a feeling that Marnie was a bit of a tragic and perhaps slightly villainous character. Hmm. Now I think I should go and buy it - I seem to recall it was a really good book :)

I think I'd be looking to find something slightly longer and using Marnie as a nn if it might be tricky to live with - perhaps Marina?

A1980 · 29/04/2011 00:16

It's awful.

Sarnie, Mardie, etc.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 28/04/2011 20:59

She will be called: Barney, Biryani, Marine, Marie, Marley etc etc. And will forever have to spell it Oh, and bastards your nearest and dearest will call her 'Marn', which is a sound much like I imagine neanderthal man used to make while pointing excitedly. Or worse, Marns

And I have never worked, let alone in a greasy spoon.

stressheaderic · 28/04/2011 20:58

I teach a Marnie who was named as such precisely so she could be called 'our Marnie' Hmm

aStarInStrangeways · 28/04/2011 20:51

I really love it but can't use it for family reasons, sadly. Do it for me Grin

babylann · 28/04/2011 20:48

A sweet name :)
