I'm not ttc right now, in fact I'm getting married soon. My thirtieth is in January 2012 and I want to be able to have some shampoo and wear a fabulous dress of my choice, choose the designer myself, is that too much to ask? then it'll be chocks away.

Here are my names.

Mary
Caroline - a nod to my mother.
Alice
Jane
Georgina
Victoria (I hate this but husband to be's family very conservative)

David (begins with the same letter as my husband's late mother's name, and he has a Welsh connection)
George
Richard
Philip
Arthur
Albert

Sigh, can you see my dilemma. My husband has such boring taste. Mary Alice reminds me of Desperate Housewives. Mary Jane is probably not going to work either, although it reminds me of more relaxed times.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yep, what Trinaluce said.

The last Prince John died in childhood of an epileptic seizure after being hidden from the public for most of his life. It is seen as an unlucky name.

Diana wanted to name William John, but Charles and Elizabeth were against it.

Not using Arthur is for similar reasons. Arthurs in the family haven't done very well. It is considered an ill-fated royal name.

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 23/04/2011 14:55

David has bad vibes. Edward VIII was called David.

freesias · 23/04/2011 14:51

aurora
tiammi Smile that would scare the pils but it's been a while since the last beheading

or if you really want to cause the mumsnet babyname thread to go into meltdown you could opt for
kai
jayden
or even better kai-jayden

and for a girl
brittany/britney
ellie-mae
lily- mae
daisy-mae
sue-ellen
etc

stripeywoollenhat · 23/04/2011 14:40

well, then, arthur for the spare.

Trinaluce · 23/04/2011 14:35

Arthur - generally accepted (by those that believe these things) that he will never get to be king
John - Prince John put the kibosh on that, and the young Prince John at the beginning of the 20th Century (son of King George V) had epilepsy and died at the young age of 13. Not sure they've tried to use John since...

valiumbandwitch · 23/04/2011 14:24

Are they MrsMae? I ddidn't know that. Obviously some of Victoria's children's names will have bad associations. Same as any family. What is the bad luck attributed to Arthur and John? do you know?

IngridFletcher · 23/04/2011 14:20

I think there is plenty of time to worry about names when you are pregnant!

I like Alice for a girl. If I had to pick a boy's name it would be George but v. popular.

Trinaluce · 23/04/2011 14:16

Have you considered Tallulah for a girl and Jayden for a boy? Might be nice for your DH2B's family to modernise a little, go with the times... Wink

MrsMae · 23/04/2011 14:04

They will not use Arthur or John as they are deemed bad luck within the Royal family.

Prince Charles will most probably reign as King George, so I doubt they'll use that either.

Tuggy · 23/04/2011 13:47

Doh! I get it now...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 23/04/2011 12:52

I adore Caroline but there was one already in the family so it was ruled out. DD has it as a middle name. I rather like David, don't hear many little ones called that now.

valiumbandwitch · 23/04/2011 11:18

ooh David and Victoria! yes that would be posh. Grin

I think Arthur has fallen into that category of 'trendy' so I don't think it is going to be right for you kiddleton.

What about Philip? a nod to your sister

MyGardenIsStillSavage · 23/04/2011 10:51

I reckon a future king Arthur is due

MyGardenIsStillSavage · 23/04/2011 10:50

Well clearly you can't use victoria since u say you hate it! Doesn't matter how much your husband likes it, it's not fair on you to use a name u really dislike.

Unless it's twins then I recommend u use david and victoria Grin.

I like Caroline, really pretty and underused now days. Not keen on any of the boys names, do like David but it may be a bit boring for you.
