What do you think?
And Elizabeth on birth certificate, or not?

We have a dd Anna already and I'm just interested in people's thoughts. Ultrasonographer thought it was a girl but couldn't be sure, baby had it's legs crossed! Smile

thanks!

I like bethany.

RockChick1984 · 24/04/2011 21:52

I'm called Elizabeth, and have at various times been known as Beth, Liz, Libby, Lizzy and Bet, so just be aware that if you only want it shortened to Beth she will probably change it to something else once she can make her own mind up about it! On the plus side, it meant I never had to have the same name as anyone else in my class!

MsHighwater · 24/04/2011 21:38

Beth, short for Elizabeth, gets my vote. Nothing wrong with having a long name and using a diminutive every day. Your dd would have a number of alternatives in future if she wished.

loueytb3 · 24/04/2011 21:32

Beth is my current fave name for DC3. I too am unsure about whether to use Beth or Elizabeth on the birth certificate. I'm not keen on Bethany or Bethan. The main reason I'm unsure is because I'm not sure which middle names go with Beth (compared with Elizabeth which is much easier). OP - have you thought about what middle names you would use if you called your DC Beth?

bobbinogs · 24/04/2011 19:08

My dd is bethan, in honour of my welsh roots. She gets called bethany alot here in england which i'm less keen on but bethan and beth are lovely

FanjoForTheMusic · 24/04/2011 19:01

Beth is beautiful. I would definitely NOT put Elizabeth on the birth certificate, don't understand why people would call a child one thing and officially name them something else.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 23/04/2011 16:46

Gorgeous name. i'd go for Elizabeth on the BC too. I also like the NN Betty.

valiumbandwitch · 23/04/2011 12:15

Love Beth. i'ts beautiful. I also like Bethan and Bethany. Can't go wrong with any name that has beth in it.

hodgessucks · 23/04/2011 11:06

Bethan is nothing like anna to my ears! I love them both. Beth is gorgeous name.

hester · 22/04/2011 20:02

I like Beth and don't see any problem with putting that on the birth certificate.

Thanks all, lots of lovely comments here! [busmile]

Am interested in the long/short name on bc debate. We've thought before that calling another girl Bethan would make it more similar to Anna than we would want - but maybe that's just us and not actually an issue in real life!! Do actually love the name though...does anyone have any thoughts about it making the name too similar to dd1's?

The thing is, as some people have also said here, neither of us like Liz or Lizzie much, although pretty much like all other nn. No offence to any Liz/Lizzie's btw, or their parents (!) just our personal preference! So that makes us lean towards Beth on the bc...

Hmm...need to mull it all over I think. Maybe we'll know when she arrives that she's a Beth or Elizabeth?!

Thanks everyone! Really helpful as we don't tell anyone in RL any name/sex details of the baby until it arrives! [busmile]

My daughter is Beth with Elizabeth on her BC. So obviously I love it.

MyGardenIsStillSavage · 22/04/2011 17:46

God YES love it! Beth is a perfectly good name on it's own but I do love Bethan for BC. I wouldn't us elizabeth simply because I has other obvious nick names which I don't like as much such as liz and lizzie.

NorkilyChallenged · 22/04/2011 17:43

I really like Beth, use it.

How about Bethan for BC (that's what I would have I think, rather than Elizabeth or Bethany).

UndiscoveredApprentice · 22/04/2011 17:38

Beth is gorgeous, is is my daughter's middle name, and just Beth on the birth certificate. Tis one of the only few shortened names that deserves this honour IMHO.

missmelo · 22/04/2011 17:30

Beth is beautiful, as is Anna, excellent choices. If she isn't going to be called Elizabeth there is probably no real need to put it on her birth certificate

Emelene · 22/04/2011 17:13

Anna and Beth are such gorgeous names! I would use Elizabeth on the birth cert though...

BikeRunSki · 22/04/2011 13:53

yyyyy
Anna and Beth, lovely.

Agree that Beth should have a long BC name.

bucaneve · 22/04/2011 13:40

lovely, one of my all time fave names :)

NothingsImpossible · 22/04/2011 08:33

Beth is gorgeous!!

If you don't like Elizabeth you could always put Bethan/Bethany.

Plonkerr · 21/04/2011 22:25

Love it!

Elizabeth is my favourite girls name, so I would definitely put Elizabeth on the BC.

Obviously only put full name on if you like the full name. If you only like Beth, then just put Beth. It's a lovely name in it's own right.

MelinaM · 21/04/2011 22:21

Beth's a lovely name, and definitely put elizabeth on the birth certificateSmile

FriedSpamButty · 21/04/2011 21:24

Lovely yes, but please use the full name on the birth certificate. I have a real thing about people giving their DC hugely shortened versions of traditional names. By all means shorten the name yourself to a version you love but please don't put that on the certificate.

My DM's friend's son called his DS Alex Ben and he - the son - couldn't understand why they didn't put Alexander Benjamin on his birth cert. Now he's 19 and trying to get a job he is giving his name as Alexander Benjamin Surname as he thinks his real full name makes his parent look a bit daft. His words!!
