Hispanic baby girl names?

MarieFromStMoritz · 20/04/2011 07:56

I have just started a thread to ask opinions on my DH's favourite girl's name: Rose. So I thought I would start a thread with mine. The name is to go with quite a grand Anglo name (think: Palmer-Tomkinson type of name).

Here goes:

Idalia (my favourite - pronounced 'ee-DAR-lee-a')
Valentina
Rosa.

Also, if anybody has any suggestions for other Hispanic girls' names, I would be grateful to hear them.

Please be honest - thanks Smile

Belen = too close to 'bellend' for my liking.

Rosa and Valentina are gorgeous though.

Not too worried about that Bumperlicioso as we live in Dubai, so there are children with names from all over the world here.

I do, but from when she starts school she will sigh and roll her eyes every time a new teacher pronounces it Id-er-LI-a. And she will always have to spell it. But then I have a v common name which I always have to spell anyway because of the variations.

I went to school with Anglo Spanish sisters called Anna, Esther and erm, Gemma!

Idalia is gorgeous!! Never heard of that before!

I also love Valentina. I can't choose between the two tbh they are both so nice.

Not so ken on Rosa, as next to the others it looks very ordinary and not as exotic/interesting.

HTH

PS Like Rosa but not others

Thanks Bumperlicioso. You don't like Idalia, then?

Love all your names and dh's. We have a Rose, I wanted Rosa but dh didn't like it so we compromised on Rose. I never would have picked it before dd was born (she was a week old before we named her!). But it is lovely, classic and beautiful. And surprisingly uncommon as a first name.

Valentina also lovely. Not hispanic but how about Andrina, I really wanted that name but dh vetoed. Or how about Carmen?
