Torin - like
Jonah - OK but be prepared for whale comments
James - like
Peter - like
Alfred - rather "old man", how about Frederick/Freddie?

Clara - like
Cosima - too pretentious
Perdita - OK but not a good meaning
Susannah - OK
Joan or Joanie - Joan is nice, Joanie a bit silly, how about Josephine/Josie?

Kentwood · 26/04/2011 09:23

Clara is nice. Rest of the girl's names I don't like.

Boys names are all nice except for Jonah which is a bit pompus but a great name for a whale.

squeak2392 · 26/04/2011 08:59

Torin - Oo, I've never heard of this before, but I quite like it.
Jonah - Fine.
James - Not my style, but I really like the idea of a baby James.
Peter - Love.
Alfred - It's okay. Prefer Arthur, but also love nn Alfie.
(1) Torin, James, Peter, Arthur.
(2) Alfred.
(3) Jonah.

Clara - I like Clar-uh, but Clair-uh just reminds me of 'clerical'.
Cosima - Not sure. Could work it you pn it with an 's', but if it's a 'z' in your accent, I'd say no.
Perdita - Hm, conflicted. I suppose it's nice, but I can't get past the Dalmatian.
Susannah - Lovely. I have it on my list as Susanna.
Joan or Joanie - Not sure if it's not a bit old, but it's nice. I'd call her Joan and use Joanie as a nn, as it looks unfinished. Why not Joanne?
(1) Susannah.
(2) Clara, Perdita, Joanne.
(3) Cosima.
(4) Joan.

Lonnie · 24/04/2011 21:02

Emelene · 23/04/2011 23:10

I like James and Clara. Both classy and I think Clara is just so elegant.

speakercorner · 22/04/2011 22:39

Torin - actually like this but would only use if it means something
Jonah - love it, was on my list

James and Peter are just good, strong, simple names.

Not fond of any of the girls' names but hate Cosima with a passion. sorry. Clara is far and away the best but much prefer Claire.

wook · 21/04/2011 13:13

Joanie, the pet name that my late grandmother's brothers and sisters called her. I think it's lovely, so there! Also like Jeanie.

exoticfruits · 20/04/2011 07:33

James, Peter, Susannah and Clara-hate the rest.

Pussinflatboots · 20/04/2011 07:19

I really like Clara (nearly named dd Clara) and Susannah (susie not sue as nn). Not at all keen on the others.

yama · 20/04/2011 07:15

I like Jonah and James from your boys list.

I love Susannah. Clara is okay, prefer Cara.

Dislike the rest.

Bucharest · 20/04/2011 07:08

Torin- is a hobbit and sings elvish poetry round campfires (sounds like)
Jonah- is very Islington
James- lovely, timeless, classy, elegant, just lovely
Peter- one of only 2 boys' names I had on my list, same reasons as James
Alfred- is still wearing a flat cap and keeps whippets

Clara-lovely
Cosima-too Nigella, also v Islington
Perdita- "loss" horrid connotation
Susannah- s'k, bit trying-to-be-posh circa 1975
Joan or Joanie- is this the MIL?

TopCatInBoots · 20/04/2011 07:01

James - love
Peter - ok

Clara - love love love

The rest are awful
