Darcy or D'Arcy - first thought.....Boy or Girl??

Due in 2 weeks (eek!) and I already have 2 DS's. So we are sorted for girls names.... but boys???????? We are all out of 'em!
I like Darcy for a boy but there is a girl called Darcy in DS1's pre-school and now I'm confused as to whether it's a boys name or a girls name.

Also I had friends about 20 years ago who named their dog D'Arcy - but meh... even that doesn't put me off. Grin
First impressions / your opinions please?

Darcy is definitely a little ladies name, Darcey Bussell immediately springs t mind when I hear the name, it is a lovely name. As for D'arcy, no, just no, don't even go there!

Darcy is mainly female in UK, but male in Aus.

p.s. wondering what socio-economic type uses Darcy, just to see if we fit?

(but then dd1's name was also mentioned on a thread the other day with a 50:50 split of lovely:horrendous)

It's pretty unisex. Wouldn't expect a boy over a girl or vice versa.

I don't like it at all. It's a surnamey type name and its popularity undeserved imo. It's, um, er, indicative of a certain socioeconomic status round these here parts.

BooBooGlass · 14/04/2011 17:56

Not really. But I am longing to know how OP knows the dog had an apostrophe. That is poncetastic

weimy · 14/04/2011 17:54

I think awful is a bit extreme.

BooBooGlass · 14/04/2011 17:54

First though is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Awful name

nowwearefour · 14/04/2011 17:53

girl- i would say def dont use it for a boy as will get teased/ surprise people their whole life

weimy · 14/04/2011 17:51

It is both. I wouldn't go for D' Arcy (of/from), tho

I have a female pup called Darcy and would have used the same name if it was a boy.

mungojerrie · 14/04/2011 17:50

I'd say girl - there are two in DD's nursery. Also Darcey Bussell the ballerina?
