Can you have a first name and middle name that mean the same?

DH and I spent some time discussing a middle name for Sorcha ( sor-i-cha) last night and both decided we liked niamh (neve). Looking into it more they both seem to have similar meanings of light, radiance and brightness....would this be weird?

Also I like the spelling Neve but DH really doesnt not sure if Sorcha Niamh is TOO gaelic?

Our last name is Flynn.

I would pronounce Sorcha as Sor-kah (rather than a cha sound) or even Sir-kah, but I guess it's probably down to what part of Ireland you're from.

Sorcha Niamh (Neeve) is lovely! Do you live in Ireland? I have a friend called Sorcha who lives here in London and she gets lots of people say Sorsh-ah.

My husband is from southern Ireland and im Scottish so a gaelic name is good we just want to make sure we know that it is authentically pronounced and we know the meaning otherwise it seems a bit pointless. Thanks for all the advice so far

My DD is called Orlaith Ruby. Orlaith means golden and DP is a jeweller.

We didn't intend to have a jewellery theme, it just happened. I wanted Orlaith, he wanted Ruby so he we compromised!

He did make me a beautiful gold neklace with a pendant in the shape of an "O" with rubies as a present after she was born.

I doubt many people will know the meaning of both Sorcha and Niamh and I doubt they'd find it weird even if they do know the meanings.

Sorcha is a very Gaelic name, so as you are going Gaelic anyway i would go for the authentic Niamh spelling.

They don't mean exactly the same thing. Sorcha means 'bright light' and Niamh is more to do with 'radiance', I think (Niamh is also famously from 'Niamh of the Golden Hair', the princess form the legend of Tir-na-nog).

Lovely name, btw.
