I know a 3 year old and a 4 year old, both called Dan or Daniel. There are zillions In the 25-30s I think, then most people got tired of it.
Most pre-school boys I know have a very limited few names between them -Oliver, Harry/Harrison, Joshua,Charlie. Very little variation.

randomimposter · 13/04/2011 08:50

have always really liked it
was very popular for a while
seems a little out of favour currently (I don't know any under 10)
BUT because it's a classic I don't think it's dated IYSWIM
Love Dan and Danny as NNs.

CheerfulYank · 13/04/2011 08:29

I like Daniel! Also Peter. :)

peanutbutterkid · 13/04/2011 08:23

Luke is pretty cool and Matthew is cool and downright rare :).
I'd put Joshua in the "boring" camp, if I had to.
Jack, Joshua & Alexander all more common than Daniel in our experience.
Funny the poster who said she couldn't call her DS Daniel because her step-brother was called that... my step-sis is married to a Daniel but it never Xd my mind when I named DS1.

Step-sis & her husband called their son... Alex :).

Tommy · 12/04/2011 23:23

we have a Daniel. There are 3 in his year of 90 children - probably similar to other names on the popularity front I would think

meeliesmum · 12/04/2011 23:21

my 5yo is daniel, he is the only one in reception 30 boys.We call him dan, danny or daniel, depending on circumstance.

EggTYmer · 12/04/2011 19:35

Love it :)

moondog · 12/04/2011 19:35

Possibly the dullest boy#s name going-jostling for space with Luke and Matthew.

youbethemummylion · 12/04/2011 19:29

lovely name I have a 4yr old Daniel and he is the only one in his nursery class. Love the nicknames as well but haven't started using one yet as Daniel seems just right not too short but not too long. At least he will have options when he is older to use Dan or Danny if he wants.

Nospringflower · 12/04/2011 19:16

Like it but lots where I am (Scotland) - two in my 6 year olds class, 2 in year above etc. Like Dan and Danny as nn.

supadupacreameggscupa · 12/04/2011 19:16

it's very dear to me this name and it really is a lovely name.
classic, but it can be shortened to suit the man he becomes (dan or danny)

great choice
Grin

Udderly · 12/04/2011 19:12

I love it, its my no 1 choice for a DS should one come along.
And I also love the Bat for Lashes song!!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/04/2011 18:50

DS 3yo is Daniel, I honestly thought there would be loads about but surprisingly there aren't! There are 3 Sophies, 2 Harrisons, 2 Olivers, and 2 Olivias in his preschool room but he is the only Daniel.
Sometimes hear someone else call out to their own Daniel, but they always turn out to be much older boys so I guess it has fallen out of popularity.
I picked to it because I don't object to the shortened names, Dan or Danny. So far he is just Daniel.
My Daniel is a very sweet natured and gentle little boy (though he has his moments Grin)

virginiasmonalogue · 12/04/2011 18:49

gorgeous name

SnotandBothered · 12/04/2011 18:49

Agree with most posters. Timeless and classic but it has a warmth to it which I think is so important.

It has become less popular in the last decade I think (which is a good thing because you probably have a while before we go full circle and it comes back to being really popular again)

Go for it. .

peanutbutterkid · 12/04/2011 18:47

DS1 name, quite popular when he was born (1999) but not so many now (at all).
It's a bit boring, I suppose, but it suits him. He quite likes being called Danny. Calvin would have been good for DS1, too.

pinkhebe · 12/04/2011 18:42

I like it. I know of 2 in year 3

Beamur · 12/04/2011 18:42

I love it, sweet name with cool nn's.

One of my fav names. Couldn't use it for DS as it's my step-brother's name.

He's 33 and I know of lots of Dan/Daniels in their 20s & 30s and also teens and younger. I can think of 3 in Year 10 and 2 in Year 7.

I don't think it's as popular as it was a few years ago.

Classic name.

BobbiDazzler · 12/04/2011 18:35

Love it. I don't know any baby Daniels and only one small boy with this name (am in London).

flopsy1974 · 12/04/2011 18:34

Lovely, timeless, classic name. I know a few daniels of my age, but don't know any little Daniels.

Insomnia11 · 12/04/2011 17:55

I think it is quite popular (among my friends and acquaintances anyway) but not quite as much as Oliver and Samuel. It makes me think of the lovely Bat For Lashes song nowadays anyway.

"Daniel when I first saw you
I knew that you had a flame in your heart
And under our blue skies
Marble movie skies
I found a home in your eyes
We'll never be apart..."

LetThereBeRock · 12/04/2011 17:48

I hate Dan and Danny, but I'd still use the name.

LetThereBeRock · 12/04/2011 17:47

I love it. It's a gorgeous name.
