Viking/Norse names for a boy

SIL is about to pop and it's a boy. She has scandinavian roots and a boy called Tor already but is stuck for a name for the new addition. (Oh, and a very tricky double-barrelled surname to boot) Any suggestions gratefully received!

Si (Sigurd)

lilaloves · 15/04/2011 13:12

Magnus or Soren

CheerfulYank · 15/04/2011 06:25

Prunhilda ....are you blonde by chance? :)

One of my great great uncles was called Arne. (We're Finnish) There was an Arvo in the family as well, and an Eino. I love Anders (know one but he's called Andy), Lars, and Gunnar. Erik is nice, and Karl.

Oddly the Danish Crown Prince couple just had twins and named one of then Vincent. Look out for Prince Vince!

Millymaloon · 15/04/2011 05:46

Roald?

Millymaloon · 14/04/2011 17:49

Roald?

Oh, I see - should read the post properly first.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 14/04/2011 15:51

I was at uni with someone called Torsten.

womma · 14/04/2011 08:57

I most certainly will - not sure if I should visit just yet because we've all got coughs and colds but we're due to visit this weekend.

It took them almost a month to decide on a name for DD1, so we may have a wait on our hands....sincerely promise to report back with chosen name. Thanks everyone Grin

Olav/Olaf, Eric or Lars get my vote! Also like Ranald. Or how about Alf, Ari or Koli?

Let us know what's been chosen!

loler · 13/04/2011 21:17

Congratulations!
Is there a name yet?

greenzebra · 13/04/2011 10:55

Congratulations, yes please let us know what she decides.

Carrotsandcelery · 13/04/2011 10:38

Congratulations! I am Envy. I hope you get cuddles soon. Let us know what is chosen please.

womma · 13/04/2011 09:11

Congratulations Aunty womma. Don't think getting her to change the names is unreasonable at all Grin

womma · 13/04/2011 06:58

Well, the little fella himself was born yesterday at 7am, so he's ready and waiting for me to bring this list when I visit.

Okay, I'll steer clear of Odin then. There's some really beautiful names aren't there? I have to say that Eric/k and Arne are my favourites. And Jesper. And....too many!

This is SIL's fourth child, making two boys and two girls - do you think I'm being cheeky to suggest that she calls this lastest boy Benny and changes the other kids names to Agnetha, Freda and Bjorn? She could have her own Abba tribute band!

Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions everyone, very much appreciated. Once she's made a decision I'll let you know.

Oh sorry, I didn't see the Odin/neo-nazi post above - in that case, yes do be careful

MollyMurphy · 13/04/2011 02:54

I like the suggestion of Jesper above too

MollyMurphy · 13/04/2011 02:53

Ooooh I met a little boy named Odin today and thought that was an adroable name

pingviner · 13/04/2011 01:48

Troels
Tycho
Teis
Morten
Ã…sbjorn
Thorfinn
Jens
Torsten
Gerhart
Nils
Ã…age
Søren
Jesper
Erland
Fjølner
Karsten

(possibly to avoid teasing steer clear of Jerk, Jerker, Anders lovely but sounds like an-ass if said in certain accents, Odbjørn, Snorri, and perhps Knut and Heini?)

no offense if anyones got kids with any of these names (If I ever have twin boys I will probably just call them Lasse and Jesse for the laugh value in Scotland.)

Yay and I got to use my swishy keyboard for once!

crystalglasses · 13/04/2011 01:18

Magnus
Rennison

Umnitsa · 13/04/2011 00:52

Kai / Kaj
Niels
Ingmar
Helgard

Kyrie · 12/04/2011 22:41

Theis is a lovely name and all 'The Killing' fans know how to pronouce it already.
Erik also good and makes me think of True Blood's Mr Norseman.

I watch too much tv....

Doesn't Odin have neo-nazi connotations in Scandinavia, i'd be careful with that one.

tigermummy35 · 12/04/2011 21:54

Loki

Carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2011 21:42

Purnnhilda they are good - about mermaids in Cornwall though - nothing Norse. Sorry, I digressed...
