Already got a Harriet Martha, and expecting DD2 in summer. Any thoughts on these names?

I think Louisa is a lovely name. Beatrice is also nice but I don't like it as much.
Congratulations :)

SilkStalkings · 13/04/2011 09:11

Also, Americans hear British pronunciation of Beatrice as 'Bitches' (they would pronounce it BEE-uh-tress).

davidtennantsmistress · 12/04/2011 20:27

We wanted beatrice until DSS said it reminded him of an old ladies name Hmm I prefer that one tbh.

LittleRedBeads · 12/04/2011 20:25

I would go Louisa too.

Much to my slight irritation Beatrice now seems to be every third little girl Hmm

I thought it was very unique and special for my DD2. She also sometimes gets nicknamed 'Beetlejuice' !!!

Louisa is beautiful and feminine and quite unusual these days too.

Sinkingfeeling · 12/04/2011 19:58

Oh, excellent taste in names - I have 3 dd and between them they have 2 of your names. :) My vote would be for Louisa.

They are both very nice, see which suits baby best when she is born.

SilkStalkings · 12/04/2011 19:44

Ooh Harriet, Martha and Beatrice were all on my girls' list for DS2 - excellent taste madameGrin. Other names we had in mind were Marianne, Nancy and Nico.

Would Beatrix be easier for Germans to pronounce? If you gave her Béa for a nn it wouldn't be so irksome for her perhaps.

BikeRunSki · 12/04/2011 18:41

Louisa by miles.

flopsy1974 · 12/04/2011 18:39

Louisa, beautiful name.

pilates · 12/04/2011 17:33

I think Beatrice sounds better with Harriet.

How about Beatrice Louisa?

dangalf · 12/04/2011 17:01

Louisa - for some reason I hate Beatrice. Bea is nice though. Hmm...

ensure · 12/04/2011 13:54

Louisa for me.

TabloidTart · 12/04/2011 12:57

Thanks everyone. I think the problem is, we live in Germany and while Louisa works better in that everyone would have no problem pronouncing it, it is more common than in the UK - was in the top 20 here last year. I prefer something more unusual really, but they'd never pronounce Beatrice like we do - and Harriet gets really wound up when people pronounce her name wrongly at kindergarten.

Beatrice goes better with Harriet, but I prefer Louisa

Anaxagora · 12/04/2011 08:04

There are quite a lot of Beatrices around, not many Louisas.

Northernlurker · 12/04/2011 08:02

I've got a Beatrice, it is a great name. I think Louisa goes better with Harriet though.

Bubbaluv · 12/04/2011 04:07

Both are so nice I would be totally happy with either.
Maybe wait and see if she looks like one or the other?

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 12/04/2011 03:59
