um....Talisker?

playing a ridiculous game with DH naming DC2 after favourite tipples, single malts came up and after the hilarity of Glenmorangie and Glenliddich, Talisker came up

I really like it!

AM I being pregnant and weird? Apparently it is a bona fide scottish name

I love Talisker! But unfortunately agree that the whiskey association is too strong to use. A shame. I also think Laphroaig would be a great name.

How about raiding Scottish place names for inspiration? I was really keen on Erskine and Troon when thinking of names for dd (Erskine for a boy, Troon for a girl) though think I am completely alone in thinking the latter is a lovely name...

MsHighwater- I agree, its only an Island traditional male name, you won't find it on the mainland.

On the Scottish theme, Midge is a good name for a boy. As in Midge Ure. Especially if he bites Smile

All the people named Isla I've ever known (mostly spelled that way, too) have been female. Never ever ever met a male Isla(y) including during a holiday on the island (recommended).

my chum's cat is Talisker. yes very well known single malt.

have been on the whisky distillery tour round Islay. on bicycles. one of the most ridiculously drunken and fun weekends ever. highly recommended.

Really? Hmmm, it sounds a bit, well, girlie if you're in southern england though.

Edradour and Talisker sound quite beefy and, well, peaty!

Maybe I'll have to get a dog just so I can use the name

If you like Islay whiskies, how about Islay? (pronounced eye-la)

There are lots of men on the island called Islay, named after the island. It's a male name.

um....Edradour? shit, I quite like that one too

Monkey Shoulder isn't the nicest whisky on the market, but it's better than Bell's

Have you considered Monkey Shoulder? (also a genuine whisky - really tasty, according to my dh).

Personally I wouldn't its a pretty popular whisky and you know whats its like on here for people laughing at times (think of all those Tia Marias for example!)
