'Ready -shortened' names...

DD1 is Sally. Technically it's a familiar form of Sarah, so it's already a nickname. Being only two syllables too you don't need to shorten it any further.

I like this, and now we are expecting another DD I do think it might be a bit odd to have a name now that needs a nickname or is long.

So, get your thinking caps on and give me some nicknames/ready-shortened names that can stand alone and go with Sally. Not all of them can, and I need more ideas!

Thanks.

Sally & Sadie

Sally & Jess(ica)

I really like Sally and Clara and Sally and Anna from the previous suggestions. Sound lovely together.

meditrina · 08/04/2011 13:24

If it's not too many "s", how about Sukie?

Also Jane/Jayne, Lindsey, Linda, Lisa, Anita, Tina, Josie, Ceri, Gwynn, Hayley, Mary, Miriam, Fleur, Lena, Helen?

BlueChampagne · 08/04/2011 13:15

Aren't we back to too many Ls (see Molly etc) will Nell(a) and Sally?

How about Tamsin (and refuse all abbreviations, they're not as good)? It's also short for Thomasina/Thomasin. Or Meg? Cara?

I guess Sally could also be short for Salome!

pixiestix · 07/04/2011 22:03

How about Nella? Or is that still Helena B-C-esque? Grin

DesertOrchid · 07/04/2011 21:54

PMSL at the fact that Nancy is a 'short' form of Anne... but I know you're right!

Do like Nancy, Nell is a bit Helena Bonham Carter, and Phoebe is my best friend's little girl so is out.

Notanumber you are definitely appreciated :-)

Annie/Anya/Nancy(as already suggested) - all shortened forms of Anne.

Nell is very nice too.

Sally and Nell.

notanumber · 07/04/2011 14:36

But you liked Clara, right? Clara was good, wasn't it?

notanumber · 07/04/2011 14:36

How dare you?! I have a very fulfilling and busy life, I'll have you know. I offer these obsessive generous suggestions as a kind of public service to pregnant women and this is the thanks I get?

DesertOrchid · 07/04/2011 14:28

Your enthusiasm is - um - disturbing? But very kind!

Rosa I'm not so keen on, but Clara is good, has the same Victorian feel as Sally.

Oooh, what about Clara? Or Rosa?

Sally and Clara

Sally and Rosa

I really like both those names and think they go well with her sister's name. No? Dontcha think, DesertOrchid? Well? Dontcha, dontcha, dontcha?

notanumber · 07/04/2011 14:19

Zoe? Though perhaps to much 'eeee' sound going on with Sally?

DesertOrchid · 07/04/2011 13:48

I think Molly/Holly/Polly/Tilly/Milly etc are TOO similar to Sally... Beth is my SIL...

Like Della, Cassie, Greta... Anything that's not too 'mainstream' really. I was a teacher and all names that crop up a lot will have a negative association somewhere along the line!
