It's funny how your liking of a name is influenced by people you know. On any given name thread, someone will always pipe up, 'I was bullied by a Gemma/Mandy/Annabel at school so I hate that name now', but it's rarer that people say 'God, that's an objectively horrible name, but I know a fabulous Gertrude so I actually really like it now'.

I don't go in much for Irish names usually, but I make an exception for Siobhán. I've never met a nasty one. All the Siobháns I've ever come across have been really sunny and lovely.

However all (ok, most) of the Joshuas I've met are a different matter.

All the Andrews and Colins Ive me have been such lovely people.

All the Callums and Connors I meet I find eeeek..

All the Lucy's and Jessica's Ive met are spoilt little madams (both adults and kids)

belgo · 08/04/2011 12:33

I have never met a nasty Jenny. I know several, and they are all lovely.

ValiumSoltera · 08/04/2011 12:31

I also had a flatmate sophie who would have put anybody off the name. She got sick around the sick in the bathroom and still didn't clean up. She never cleaned up. She was too posh I think?? I thought maybe she might clear up her own vomit. But no. I had to ask her politely if she would mind dreadfully cleaning the vomit up around the sink. It had dried and gone clear at this point, and she scowled at me as though I were being a right ol' nag.

Haha Wink Maybe it's because some 'mean-spirited' people go about it in different not so obvious ways x

NotaMopsa · 08/04/2011 00:12

Joshua spans too great a field....

Jamie/Ryan/Jordan/Zacv all naughty

newportstateofmind · 08/04/2011 00:06

Never met a Ryan I liked though!

notanumber · 08/04/2011 00:05

Because you are bad, blueberry, and you hate babies. And adults. And all other people.

Shame on you.

Chill. Some people are loons have a heightened sense of senstivity about sensitive things like names Wink

Erm, excuse me, but how come you are allowed this thread without being 'mean-spirited', but I am not allowed mine? :)

LucretiaInShadows · 07/04/2011 20:45

I've never met a nice Anna.

All Frances/Francescas are beautiful!

AliSheedy · 07/04/2011 14:34

Lauras are lovely.

loonyrationalist · 07/04/2011 11:16

Funny isn't it how easily our reactions to a name can be coloured by a particularly nice/nasty owner of said name.

On girls names the one name DH & I agreed on was one we didn't want - Sophie - influenced by rather horrid housemate we & our best friends shared a house with at uni. Friends felt the same about the name. Imagine their dismay when their niece was christened Sophie (no they never let on to the parents) In the 10 years since she has been born they have come to love the name again as most of its association is with their neice; whereas for DH & I it retains a certain horridness as we do not have the nice connotations.

Aren't humans weird Grin

MackerelOfFact · 07/04/2011 10:06

Have also only ever met bloody lovely Matts.

MackerelOfFact · 07/04/2011 10:01

All Helens I know are intelligent and lovely (and it's not my name BTW Grin).

Agree with Lauras and Laurens, and would add Lucys - I reckon half of my female friends have one of these names!

Marrow · 06/04/2011 23:53

I know three Heidis and all lovely. I have known two Natashas and both very bitchy.

Have to disagree with Jade as I have ony known one but she is one of the nicest, sweetest people I know!

Plonkerr · 06/04/2011 23:53

Emily
Sarah
Amy
Tom (although they tend to be cheeky)
William

All Charlottes and Rebeccas are unbearably bossy, all Josephs and Jamies are naughty and all Ellies are a pain in the arse. Fact. Well, almost.

muminthemiddle · 06/04/2011 23:45

I've never met a nasty Jane or Peter.

cowboylover · 06/04/2011 23:45

I have only ever met horrid Charlottes and Rachaels!

That why I think our names list so far is of people neither of us know so can not prejudge but its only our experiences.

I did encounter an awful Siobhan at school but she didn't have the accent thingy - maybe that makes a difference! [smle]

halfcaffodils · 06/04/2011 21:45

Most of the weddings I have been to have involved a James or an Andrew. (But not both). Grin
